The Million Dollar Tenshu Challenge

Hey guys

I'm debating this a bit inside my head, and I thought the only fair way to resolve this is by actually testing it out on someone. It's about fingerstyle (classical) vs using a pick.

Could any of you guys just try and play this with a pick? It's a good excerpt for a test, since it isn't very hard to do, but in my mind will still create a challenge for a pick guitarist. Check out the sound file if you need a hint; doesn't even have to be the same speed, just a good speed will do.

Code:
-------------0-------------------0-----------------------0--------------
-------6------------------6-------------5-----------------------5-------
----------6------------------6-------------6----------------6------6----
----6-----------------6-------------------------------5------------------
-4-------------------------------------------------3----------------------
-------------------6------------------------------------------------------

...C#...................Bbm....................................C9b

Thanks for your time

Even with fingers it was a bit of a challenge at first, especially that fast. There's no way I can play this with a pick.

Pfft. I could do that. :o

Not really, but I bet Seb or Schming could.

Edit: Got it working I'll try and upload somewhere

Ok I pretty much have it down but I got a question Tenshu: For the last bit with the 3 5 0 6 5 6 (last sequence), are you making a funky chord position or moving positions fast with the left hand? I'm doing the latter cause the position that chord is in is wack.

It's possible to do all these chords in just three positions. The trick in this, and this is very cool, you already change to the last chord (c9b) after the second open string on the high E.

So

Code:
------------0-------------------0
-------6------------------6------
----------6------------------6---
----6-----------------6----------
-4--------------------------------
-------------------6--------------

should be no problem. After this last note you change positions already, which might seem counterintuitive.

Code:
------------------------------
-----5-----------------------
----------6-----------------
-----------------------------
-----------------------------

is already in changed position: ring finger on the five, pinky on the six, middle finger on the five, index on three.

I'm really confusing even myself cause I'm not used to tab, but in short:
-change positions after the second open string, then
-change to a standard third position C-chord, but with pinky on 6

Fun! I'm a total rookie so I'm gonna make this my little project for a while.

just FYI, anything can be played with a pick unless is has stuff like this:

-----------3--3--------
-----------3-----------
----3---------0-0------
-----------------------
----2-----------2h3----
--0---0-2-3-3-------2-0

in those cases you'd either use finger picking or still holding a pick but fingerpicking those notes with your pinky, ring or middle finger and using your pick as the "thumb"

Hey drizzt,

if you got it working, I'd really like to hear it. If you don't have a place to upload, you can send it to j.vanhauwaert@gmail.com

Thanks for the effort man
