Great album, but on par with the rest of their albums (that I have), in my opinion.

I feel it IS their best album. However, I'm not really into Metallica anymore at all. Cant stand to listen to them. It's just guitars and grunting.

I think it's definatly their best album, I love One from that album. Pure awsomeness.

I'm kinda in between "no better than others" and "greatest", but when I first got it I thought it was the greatest ever.
Now I enjoy s&m approx equally with the original puppets, lightning, and justice.

regardless, it is still quite a masterpiece; how else could The Thing That Should Not Be sound so damn good!

and to think metallica waited 8 years tp pick up Kamen's offer to do this!
Michael Kamen offered metallica the chance to play with the SF Symphony back when they were making the black album, but metallica declined. After Load, Reload, and Garage Inc "failed", metallica decided to accept the offer. Kamen at first didn't remember he made such an offer, hehe


btw, I learned this from a dvd I got back in september that documented the development of the black album.

I love that album. It takes their best stuff and makes it better with the symphony element.
