i'm also gonna add the kings of leon dude, just because of some funk he has.

and the new album pwns

i'll also mention mike patton again, since i would have sex with his voice in an instant.

hehe, well I don't really consider blink-182 punk, but thats what there classified as (at least on real player, which I use for ripping cd's) I think they are more poppy now days, but the latest thing i've heard by them was Rockshow a few years back.

Oh, and I'll add another person to the list, though I don't know his name :( . He's the singer from The Darkness. I haven't heard to many of their songs, but Growing On Me, was awsome.

(EDIT: His name is Justin Hawkins, and I've never seen a picture of the band until I just googled them, and well..... they looks insane, and lame as hell, but they do sounds pretty good)

Compared to many other vocalists his voice is a good deal better, but I haven't heard those other guys yet.

Check out Sonata Arctica - The Misery, and Sonata Arctica - My Selene. You'll understand why Detty mentioned them, then.

Male:

Maynard James Keenan - his sound is so varied. From his droning to his excited screaming, he's great.

Robert Plant - Led Zeppelin <3ness

Freddy Mercury - agreed

Ozzy Osbourne has a very unmistakable voice, and though it can get on my nerves occasionally, songs like Dreamer are very, very good.

Tommy Walter - created Abandoned Pools. Not popular, but very good nonetheless. His range is astounding, and even at the highest notes, his voice is clear.

Matthew Bellamy - singer of Muse. He does high pitches amazingly well. I saw Muse live, and he definately gave off a holy aura with his singing and stage presence. Amazing vocals from this guy.

Mikael Åkerfeldt - definately my first choice when I saw the thread title. This guy's voice is amazing, as is his timing. Even his death-metalish screams are clear, pronounced, and very appropriate.

I could go on and on, but these are some of the best.

Female: I don't really listen to enough female vocalists to make an informed decision.

Maynard James Keenan.

Can't wait for the new Tool album. Too bad the new Perfect Circle album stinks. :(

I never liked the punk sounds, mainly because most of the singers have very "whiney" voices, such as that Blink- 182 band, but gregs voice is a breath of fresh air.

You're obviously listening to the wrong bands. If you want some real Punk, check out groups like Bad Brains, TSOL, Social Distortion, The Reverend Horton Heat, Green Day, Minutemen, etc. There's a lot of Punk out there that sounds nothing like current bands such as Blink 182 and Good Charlotte.

Blink-182 punk?

This nonsense makes Stinkywrix sad :(

Go buy a clash album, or a minutemen album, and never ever look back.

The Clash are too cool to be called punk.

I just got some Sonata Arctica, not those though. Plus my gaming PC is down so I can't do much. From the song or two I listened two, it sounded fairly similar to Edguy (they're both power metal) but not as symphonic, more like 80s headbanging Metallica. The vocals were good, haven't listened to a song to make me think they are great (I am not disagreeing of course I just haven't listened enough).

I'm gonna go with Matthew Belamy of Muse. Especially after seeing them live. That guy sings amazimgly, plays guitar amazimgly and plays piano amazimgly. He's just too freaking talented.

I'm also gonna say Axl. Just because he's got so many different voices and he uses them all really well.

I also really like Jon Davis from Korn. He can really bare his soul on a song.

There are others. Pavarotti maybe...?
2005-01-17, 8:28 AM #55
James Hetfield - Harmonizing with your own voice is great.
Axl Rose - The first time you hear him sing in two seperate voices, it sounds like two different people.
Bruce Dickinson - What a range.
Dave Mustaine - Although his singing style has been called "whiney", when he sings, you can tell his mood because he expresses it very well through his singing.

Also, you can tell which band you're listening to just by the singer's voice because all of these guys have very unique voices. However, Bruce would be the less unique of them all, in my opinion (unique when maiden was formed, but not so unique today).

He also writes all their songs, and his guitar and piano skills are 99% self-taught. Yeah, that guy scares me too

Lemmy Kilmister, James Hetfield, Bruce Dickinson, Angus Young, Paul Stanley/Gene Simmons, Ozzy Osbourne, Dee Snider, Dave Mustaine and Rob Halford. Not in that particular order.
666, The Number of the Beast.
664, The Bloke Next Door.
Matt Bonner, The Lebron Killer

Angus Young? Last I checked he played guitar and only did the occasional backing vocal.

oh and yeah, Freddy Mercury is an amazing vocalist. I think I can say that he is one of the finest in music....... or has been in music.

note- for some reason the singer of Dream Theater sounds oddly like Freddy Mercury. At least to me.

Male: I guess I'll nominate Bono of U2 - really like his voice, just something about it... Either him or Jeff Buckley, yet another amazing artist.

Female: I have some ideas, I just don't think I could make a real decision...
