I couldn't figure this out: I could practice a song over and over and not go flat. But as soon as I started recording, I'd start going flat and crap. So I asked myself: what's different when I'm recording?
1.) Headphones
2.) The big one - the reverb I'm hearing from the large room I'm in is no longer there.

The solution? Add lots of reverb to everything while recording, then disable it when I'm done. Quite easy to do with my MR-8, by the way. And of course, that was exactly it. So I recommend this technique to anyone having similar troubles while recording.

Although I notice some of you use lots of reverb anyway. ;)

Weird, but it's cool that you got it figured out. Any new songs?

(Overuse of) Reverb sucks.

I'll give that a try. I usually sing in the basement, and there's a lot of natural reverb down there. In my room where I record, there isn't any at all.

Good stuff. :D

I love reverb. :(
The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

I love theramins. One of my friends made one out of an old radio.

That is the coolest thing ever! Was it difficult?

I dont know how to compare it to normal people. He makes anything out of everything. All I know is that he uses an old sewing machine pedal to control the sensitivity of it and the antennae is obviously the receptor, with the speaker being a speaker.

They sell kits for making your own theramin. I really like them too (the theramins, not the kits. haven't tried a kit yet). Did you know that when they were inititially created, they were supposed to be used as regular instruments? Old science fiction movies used them, so they kinda lost their reputation there. But, if you have the DVD of Ed Wood, there's a special feature for the theramin and it shows someone playing one and it just tells all about them. It's really cool!

A lot of... I hate the term... math rock bands use them.

Think drum machines, like the really small Casio keyboard ones... with some whiny *** vocals on top.
