I totally suck when it comes to finding new music. I'm not really passionate enough to actually spend large amounts of time looking for bands I like, so I end up just listening to the same stuff over and over. Whenever I do get something new, it's because I've heard it somewhere, so it's likely to be of the pop variety, which obviously limits my collection somewhat.

So. I've decided that what I want is some ska and maybe some reggae. I'm also a bit of a closet stadium rock fan. I would greatly appreciate someone giving me a place to start looking for stuff - any really obvious bands that everyone should have and the like. kiitos.

Agreed. :D

You might like "Yelo Molo." They're French (Quebecois actually), but they're a great ska band.

If you like stadium rock, I say go for Metallica. Their box set "Live Sh*t: Binge and Purge" is all live music (and video footage) of their best songs.

Are flogging molly ska?
Cause im not really sure if they are...
You have to listen to them though, they are the best.
But their style is very different.

Flogging Molly is inspired by more traditional Irish music.
I tend to classify them as "Irish Rock"

How long have you been a fan of them anyway? I love NMH!

I don't know if David Bowie counts as stadium rock, but I think some of his stuff is sort of similar.
The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars was his breakthrough album, and the one that would probably fit what you like the most.

Adding another to the ska list:
If you like covers (who doesn't?) look for Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. They do some insanely funny covers.

And do try Flogging Molly.

yes!! I love these guys just for the hilarity of it all, though I wouldn't class them as ska either. Though I am now reminded of another criteria for me - I love pretty much anything I can sing along to, preferably at the top of my lungs! :D

I totally forgot about this thread :o so I'll start sifting through the replies now, thanks guys.

btw, I've been on stage with Less Than Jake. I think we also hung out with them all at the after party, but I was pretty drunk by then.
