http://www.kakiking.com/

Just saw one of her videos on VH1, was really amazed. She has the same playing style as Ani Defranco, more new folk-y, but really advanced. She's an acoustic virtuoso, no vocals(from what I've heard), you should all check her out, no download required, it's all flash.

She has somewhat of the same playing style of the video of a man shown here not too long ago, also doing acoustic. not only does she tap as well, but also the way she fingers the frets and forms chrods, she does it backward. She streches her hand over the fretboard, instead of under and around, it's quite peculiar, but works. Try and download the video if you can.

I dont like it, but it's cool.

....I just noticed it's all in an open tuning. It's not as cool anymore.

The overhand style is used quite extensively by tappers, especially for 8 finger tapping on the lower strings. Michael Angelo Batio has a habit of switching between regular and overhand at insane speeds.

Good vid , not as melodic as that other guy though.

I just listened to the song they were playing on the site, but I kind of liked it. I liked it a lot more than most modern guitar jazz.

I saw that video on Conan when it was shown on Conan. Also, pretty damn good, better than me, but also, as Schming points out, open tuning, not as cool....

What does the fact that it's in open tuning have to do with it? It sounds just as nice as it would otherwise, doesn't it?

There are, of course, exceptions to every rule.

As we all know, how you play is more important than how it sounds.

I like the way it sounds. All I mean is, if you are specifically talking about someone as a guitarist, then it is not as an amazing a feat as it would be were it not just plucking six strings really fast but also actually fretting the strings. Nevertheless, it is pretty cool, cooler than what I can do, just not as cool as if it was something cooler. :)

Also, for example, Kurt Cobain was not the greatest guitarist, he was also not a bad guitarist, but even though Nirvana's music is pretty simple, I still really love it, including what it sounds like. ;)

What do you mean "fretting the strings"? How on earth is she not using the frets?

I think he means that since she's playing in an open tuning, she can play open strings (without fretting them) and play them faster because she doesn't have to worry about her left hand as much.
