What are these noises?

<@Vinny> I connected my computer's line-in to my amps headphone thing
<@Vinny> and it sounds fine, but when I record it it makes those noises.
<dud|bed> It sounds to me like it's probably either the physical connection, or the sound card
<@Vinny> well, the thing is, when you plug stuff into the inputs, you can hear it through the headphones or whatever speakers you have hooked up
<@Vinny> So I can plug the amp into my computer, plug headphones into my computer, and hear it that way
<@Vinny> And when I do that, it sounds perfect
<@Vinny> It only makes [when I play back the recording]
<@Vinny> I'm gonna post on the music forum and see if anybody knows anything

So... do you?

I get that sound when I playback in Sonar with my CPU maxed out (too many effects). What program are you using to record and what kind of driver and latency settings are you using?

I'm using Sound Recorder, with an SBL!... not sure what you mean by latency settings.

There's a phones output, speaker output, and fx send/return. There's also a DI out.

there you go.. use that... and on the odd chance it's an XLR output you would want one of these http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/335209/

Yeah, it's XLR, and thanks.

But I really don't think that's what the problem is, since it only has those noises when I play it back.

the DI out is still the one you want for recording the headphone out is amplified and the amplification circuit on the headphone out could possibly be the culprit...

try plugging the guitar directly into the computer and see if you still get the popping sounds...
