Ok, so I got this thing now, and have no idea how to play it.
It was out of tune, I tuned it with a program from the web.. just by ear. That didn't take too long.

But I honestly have NO idea how to play it. I'm not about to pay for lessons.. I'm going to learn this by myself.

I was hoping some people could give some pointers, good websites, and all that fun stuff.
Thanks!

Oh, and pick up one of those Teach Yourself Guitar books at the local music shop. They usually come with like CDs so you can play along with the lessons and whatnot, they teach you cords and other stuff.

Oops, first image wasn't supposed to have a 1 on it.

Yea, the guitar does look quite nice. I don't know enough about guitars at this point to actually say if it plays nice or not.. but :) Whatever.

Yea, it's really hard to get anything sounding good coming out of this thing... :)
I'm working in it though. I'm definately going to look into more offline resources about it. I'm going to study like crazy and practice practice practice!

Definately...practice makes perfect.

Believe it or not, I tought myself guitar with "Guitar for dummies". If you don't want to pay for lessons, I'd definately reccomend that book (or something like it), it really helped me a lot.

Yea, those dummy books are really good! I learned pretty much most of my knowledge of HTML from their book. Good idea, I'll think about picking that up.

I know a couple people that know how to play it too, so I can get some personal tips/help in too.

That's how I taught myself. It is a really good beginner's book. I'd recommend it. Comes with a CD so you don't have to read music.

Guitar is one of the rare instruments where you can easily teach yourself. You don't really need lessons.

I started out by learning a few chords, and then practicing switching between them until I was able to successfully transition.

I think this is the site I found really useful:

I still don't know the names of the 6 strings and I only know 7 chords with their names. :(

I started learning with the book that came with my guitar (which didn't really teach a lot), then by online stuff. Eventually I learned (and am still learning) music theory. So if I see a strange chord I don't know, I can usually figure it out. So when you get into playing licks and leads, you might want to learn music theory, too.

If you can afford it, get lessons. You'll learn more quickly and won't pick up any bad habits.
