Favorite songs;
A Letter To Elise

Lovecats
Homesick
Plainsong
Just Like Heaven
If Only Tonight We Could Sleep
One More Time
Breathe
Chain Of Flowers
Hot Hot Hot!!!

AND MANY MANY MORE.

Reasons why The Cure rocks;

GREAT diversity in music. I DESPISE bands where every one of their albums is the same old CRAP. You won't find that with The Cure.

They put on the best live show I've ever seen, hands down.

The music ranges from incredibly intelligent, to silly.

Robert Smith's hair.

Robert Smith saved South Park

I could probably go on.

And for people who don't like The Cure, go away. :P

When I saw that the latest post was by Rob, I thought "Probably about The Cure..."

But I'll go away since I don't like The Cure and nobody seems to be discussing Nair.

I've had them on my computer for a long time. I just listened to them for the first time on my way to class on Monday. I fell in love. Wonderful band.

'gree. They're not bad, but I'm not a big fan of the resurgence of interest in them. Seems to me like they've just been bored the past couple of years so they decided to make a new album to see if they could have a few more flings. Like every other 80s band right now.

If only that was true.. I mean, bands like the Sisters Of Mercy haven't released new stuff in, what, ten years? Though, Bauhaus has re-united recently, which is ****ing awesome.

Siouxie from Siouxie and the banshee's was touring too, I didn't get a chance to see her though.

I like The Cure. My favorite song is "Close to Me".
2005-02-25, 5:34 PM #9
The only album I have is Three Imaginary Boys, which isn't really The Cure that is famous.

I want disintigration though.

They had a song called fly me to the moon or something like that. I thought it was just smashing.

Good eye sniper, now I shoot, you run...what song was that from now?

The only thing I can think of remotely close to that, is Love Song, to the fly me to the moon bit.

The good eye sniper thing... I have no idea what you're talking about.

Go buy a copy of Disintegration.

It's worth the $15 you'll spend on it. AND it has Lovesong on it.

I liked Friday I'm In Love.

I think that's The Cure..

Sisters of Mercy have been planning on releasing a new album. I heard about it way back in 2003.

Bauhaus is one of those bands that isn't really broken up so much as they don't play together much. They'll occasionally tour, so it's not exactly a reunion. They last toured in 2000, I think, and recorded a cover of Severance by Dead Can Dance.

She's cool. She recently did the vocals on a song by Basement Jaxx called Cish Cash.

My favorite Cure stuff is their early stuff. I don't have their early albums, but I like that period stuff from Staring at the Sea. Killing an Arab and Boys Don't Cry are far superior to their later stuff. Disintegration is okay, but a little overindulgent IMO.

If you like Killing an Arab, read The Stranger by Albert Camus. The song was based on it. It's an existentialist book, and I disagree with existentialism, but it was still pretty good.

In a story I once wrote, I had a joke where one of the characters listens to the radio and hears Toby Keith covering Killing an Arab, not understanding the real point of the song.

Speaking of Lovesong... Snake River Conspiracy does a cover of it which, in my opinion, is the awesomest cover ever because it's totally different from the original.

I'm not a big fan of AFI, but they did an awesome cover of Hanging Garden.

That cover sucked. :P
2005-03-01, 5:50 PM #20
No, it was pretty rockin.

The original song is so boring.
2005-03-01, 6:16 PM #21
You have like no taste in music, so your opinion doesn't count anyways. :P
2005-03-01, 7:06 PM #22
Okay, nairboy.
2005-03-03, 10:47 PM #23
Yeah, so I was looking through my friend's myspaces, and one of them had a Cure video up (In Between Days)... and I liked it. What's happened to me?!
2005-03-04, 2:54 AM #24
You're starting to like good music. ;)
2005-03-04, 2:22 PM #25
The beginning sounds a lot like Dancing With Myself.
2005-03-05, 1:32 AM #26
Well, Inbetween Days was on their album Head On The Door, which came out 1985.
2005-03-05, 7:19 AM #27
Only heard a few songs here and there and can't remember much about it but I have heard a lot of good stuff about them and I'm keen to have a decent listen. Rob, if you could suggest 2 albums that a cure n00b like me should consider getting (and why), that would be great.
2005-03-05, 10:40 AM #28
Disintegration, it's simply the best Cure album out there.

Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me, the archetype of Cure pop hits. Definately the most fun album, and it definately has some of their best work lyrically on it. Also they're longest album. In my opinion, this was the ablum that really proved they aren't just a doom and gloom band.

If you can get it, I'd get their new album too. For a Cure album, it's very hard and it's pretty angry sounding.
2005-03-06, 1:09 PM #29
Staring At the Sea: The Singles is pretty good. It has some of their early stuff on it.

I just bought Disintegration on my lunch break. I'll give it a listen when I get home.
2005-03-07, 5:17 AM #31
Good man.
2005-03-07, 7:13 PM #32
I like it. It didn't blow me away, and I don't love it, but I like it.
2005-03-07, 10:01 PM #33
I found it to be one of those albums that has to grow on you.

(you should have started with Staring at the Sea! :p)

2005-03-08, 2:42 AM #34
The problem with giving people who aren't familiar with The Cure Staring At The Sea is that The Cure is really diverse, and the singles collection tends to skip around ALOT.
2005-03-08, 8:47 PM #35
That is a good point. Staring at the Sea jumps from the minimalist early sound to all of the sudden the more lush soundscapes.

I just don't know if Disintegration is a good way to start with The Cure. The music isn't the kind that grabs you, you have to be willing to sink into it.

2005-03-09, 4:50 AM #36
But, it's charm is inevitable.

Then is the time to move back to the earlier stuff.

I find most people won't even listen to their more minimalist work. Which is a shame, Seventeen Seconds, Faith, and Pornography are among their best albums.
2005-03-09, 2:47 PM #37
You're right about its charm. I had forgotten how much I like the album until I listened to it a few days ago. Once you get past the first song, the rest is pretty accessible.

2005-03-09, 3:52 PM #38
Awww, Plainsong is my favorite in the album. :P

It's big and epic, thats what I like about it.
2005-03-10, 4:27 PM #39
I agree - it's a great opener.
2005-03-10, 5:58 PM #40
I do like the song sometimes, and when I do I like it a lot, as is evidenced by the fact that at some point I rated both it and the second song at five stars on iTunes.

I don't remember when I did that, but I only do that when I really like a song and want to remember it for later. The first and second songs are the only ones I rated.

Still though, that first song usually makes me feel sleepy.

Which one is the second one? *starts playing second song*, ah yes, that is a good one.

I also really like the one where he goes "however far away, I will always love you" and then the song goes do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-da-do-da-do.
It's not the side effects of cocaine, so then I'm thinking that it must be love
