So I recorded a song (people from Québec will recognize it):

Edit: UPDATED, as if anyone actually listened
Clicky.

I'm having trouble getting it to sound "professional," so let me know what sounds out of place.

Thanks.

Damn, just when I was starting to get this song out of my head!

Sounds fine to me. Maybe it could use a little EQ.
The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

Sounds fine with distortion. At the beginning, though, the left guitar sounds a tad out of tune. You might be slightly bending a string or two, or maybe applying too much pressure. Also, if, in that part, you were going for a more "round" sound, try using the pickup nearest the neck of your guitar (maybe play with tone knobs a bit, too), plus some compression (if you didn't have any, I couldn't really tell), and just a tiny touch of reverb. With the panning, try only going somewhere between 50-75% left or right instead of completely. They sound too isolated from the rest of the mix.

The rest of it sounds fine.

Yeah, I changed string gauges, and the intonation is a bit off when I play chords higher than the 12th fret. I'll try tuning my guitar with the notes fretted instead. And I was playing my neck pickup. :p

And yeah, the panning bugs me too, but bringing it closer together doesn't sound right to me. I'll try using some reverb to bring it a bit together, and maybe pan them a bit closer like you said.

Thanks for your input. :D I should have the vocals done by Tuesday.

Then maybe try EQing it? I dunno. Just sounds like there's a lot of highs, but then again, my ears are sometimes extra-sensative to high frequencies, and other times not.

[edit: Or maybe it's new-string sound.]

I'll cut the EQ at 7000hz and boost at 200-300hz, that should make the clean guitars at the beginning a little less harsh and a little more warm. I did change my strings not even a week ago, though. :p

Thanks again. :)

The distorted guitars lack the punch they need. TURN THEM UP!There's no reason they should be the same volume as the clean guitars.

I just tried, but the automation on my track keeps turning the volume back down when I turn it up. :p I'll redo the envelope tomorrow. Thanks. :)
