This is one of my many songs I have wrote.. though there is no drum track, or bass, or vocal. But there are two guitar tracks..

And sorry that the quality is really bad but you gotta work with what your givin. I'm still working on some of my settings to clear it up a bit.

Anyway, besides the quality issue and a few mess ups. What do you think!

That distortion was like 99% noise, 1% crunch.

I'd recommend (at the very least) EQing it. I was messing around, and it made quite a difference to just drop 16k by about -18dB, and 8k by -9 dB. Although it's still not as chunky as distortion should be.

Yeah EQing it helped a bit.. I mean I'm not working with the best setup. Guitar -> Metal Zone Pedal (Which I think is 90% of the noise problem) -> 4 Track -> Computer. Software I'm using is Sonar 4. And I have a soundblaster card.. nothing special.

It works great when I mic an acoustic guitar. But I don't have the right kind of Microphone for micing the amp, but when I do it sounds real "hollow" and not too good. But atleast its not all noise.

So I dunno, anyone have any Ideas I should try untill I can get better hardware?

Do you have an output on your amp? If so, try using that instead of going directly from the distortion pedal to recording.

And I just took a look at your waveform, it looks like your input was cranked way too high. That's most likely the reason it's so noisy.

Here's a look at your waveform, if you haven't seen it. It's like WAAY peaked out. Whatever you're recording with, you need to turn down the input(s) on it. A lot.

Z, if you're just plugging your pedal directly into the computer, you can use the Cakewalk Amp Sim (included with Sonar since version 2 I believe) to simulate a mic'ed speaker cab.

It'll give you a little something like this (I used another plugin, but it does the same thing):

For cheap recording that sounds really good with guitar, I recommend the Line6 Guitar Port (~$99). It's like the Line 6 POD, but you can hook it straight up to computer via USB. So its very simple. I have no latency issues with it either.

Here's just one guitar track I did with the rest of the insturments being MIDI. Plus, you can get tons of sounds.

Props to whoever names the song first...:)

Thats cool Demon, nice song.

I'm gonna have to check out that guitar port for sure. I've given up on my method of tring to get a clean recording.

Demon - that sounds like Nightwish, but I don't have a clue what song.

Correct Shintock - I added a little bit of a different rhythm just to make it more fun to play.

The song is

"Nightwish - Dead to the World"

From about 1:22 in the song to 2:08 about.

I have a MIDI of the song, just muted guitars and recorded one guitar track using a tone I made on Guitar Port.
