Pink Floyd has been my favorite band for a while, but I never got around to listening to this album. I always expected it to suck, to be a shadow of their former glory, what with the absence of Waters and all.

But I recently bought it, and to my suprise it was very good. It has a nice mellow sound to it, and overall I thought it was very well done.

Anyone else listened to it? Thoughts, comments?

What, no one likes the Floyd?

I like Pink Floyd - and that there is my favourite Floyd album. Not only that, but I would put that album into my top 10 fav alums of all time. Some really beautiful songs on that album. High Hopes is my highlight, but only by a small fraction. Excellent production, as well.

While Waters was a huge part of Floyd, so was Gilmour, for me at least he pretty much made the Floyd sound we know today. It's especially evident in the difference between Piper/Saucer albums with Barrett, then Dark Side and on with Gilmour, Waters is present the whole time, even writing songs, but he doesn't seem to have a huge impact on the real art-rock/jazz vibe Dark Side and on have.

Not to undermine his importance, he also made Floyd sound the way they did to an extent, but Gilmour really changed a lot around.

Darkside of The Moon.

Then, The Wall.

Then, Wish You Were Here

The rest you may obtain at your own discretion.

This man speaks the truth. Make sure you get the 2 disc edition of The Wall though. Their other stuff is good, but (with the exception of a couple of tracks here and there) doesnt really compare to these three albums.

I never really cared for Division Bell.... I mean High Hopes is good with a few others.... but it can't compare to albums like Wish You Were Here, Animals, and Dark Side. Lyricaly it fails in comparison, and Gilmour's music composition just bores me, to be honest.... but at least the album still has his trademark guitar solos. Can't beat those.

Without Waters, Floyd lacks that raw british psycho-blues feel that made Pink Floyd one of the most unique and best bands of all time. Sad.

I'd also like to add that Echoes would be a great album to give a listen to any time.

Echoes I don't really think is worth the money, as it's a Greatest Hits collection, and Pink Floyd wasn't a hit writing band. There were an album band. It's just my opinion that they songs lose a lot of their meaning if you take away the rest of the album.

I heard that album so many times, and ranks as one of my favourites. Pink Floyd is a band I grew up with as my dad had most of their albums and its good to hear that the album is still popular. Personally I think the final track 'High Hopes' is the best and most powerful.

Try to see the film "The Wall" as well, definately get a better understanding of a lot of the issues that Floyd deals with their songs, past history, and their views.

this is a good point, actually. i enjoy echoes but I know the context of all the songs while someone new to them may not.

A lot of people seem to like Pink Floyd. I don't like Pink Floyd.

Can someone please explain to me what I am not hearing that the rest of you are?

Well, what music do you listen to?

I like it for the complex rock, and the amazing lyrical style. Their jazz influence also rocks as well, especially with a Gilmour solo. As well as the bit of psychedelia.

I like Baroque music, Jazz, some Classical, Romantic, American folk music, drum and bass, Alternative, Punk, Metal, Hip-Hop and Rap, New Wave, Rock and Roll...I don't know what they're called.

I basically like music of every variety. For example, that Elvis song, "A little less conversation," plus that funky remix job, that's in that godawful movie is awesome. I like Bob Dylan. I like that Creedence Clearwater Revival song "Proud Mary." I like Peter, Paul and Mary. I like the Mamas and the Papas song "California Dreamin'." I like the Neil Diamond (and the Urge Overkill cover) song "Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon." I love the band My Bloody Valentine. I love that '80s/early-'90s rap music. I love Jazz. I love the song by the Verve Pipe, "The Freshmen." Haddaway, "What is Love." I really like the music of the '90s. I like Nirvana ("Do Re Mi" is amazing) and blink 182. I love Vivaldi, J.S. Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. I really like Moby (his latest Hotel wasn't too great though). I used to say I love all music but Country, however, when I was playing GTA: San Andreas I loved all the Country music in that game. I love Hole's Live Through This. I love REM. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs song "Maps" I really like. Also, I love The Wedge (show) on MuchMusic. I don't really like Alexisonfire, but I love their song "Waterwings" (even though the music video is lame). The Doors' "The End." Leonard Cohen. I can't think of the other stuff I listen to right now. Oh well.

Gah! People, you forget Animals and Meddle!

Meddle has two of my favorite tracks from Floyd--Echoes and Pillow of Winds.

Anyways...

Have you listened to the entire Dark Side of the Moon album, start to finish? That pretty much turns everyone into a fan. Most people I know that don't like it is because it has Pink in the name. (Dumbasses!)
