1. Soldier Side - Intro
This track is a relaxing intro with a viloin and only four lines of vocals. It's a 1 min 7 sec track but it's a very calm, relaxed, and uh oh....BYOB is coming up.
2. B.Y.O.B.
BLAST OFF! IT'S PARTY TIME!!!! BYOB is an amazing track. It's topping charts everywhere. The tune is so catchy it's hard not to like. Even if you hate System of a Down, it's hard to hate BYOB. This political song talks about war (like many other SoaD songs). The chorus is kind of laid back and addictive, while the rest of the song (just as addictive) is more of a yelling hardcore tune. It's amazing how well the song blends loud and soft music. A powerful message backed by powerful music. Couldn't ask for more.
3. Revenga
This song starts off with a drum beating over and over with a soft guitar, and about 20 seconds in a catchy fast guitar riff kicks in and serj starts to say something really really fast...I still for the life of me can't understand it. Then about 1 min in, the song goes into the best part of the entire CD, this songs chorus is amazing. You thought BYOB was catchy, you haven't heard anything yet. This song it #1 on my list, and I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes your favorite track too. Now the song is about 2:30 in, the guitar is riffing it's way to heaven it seems and Serj and Daron 'Ooooooooooooooh' in harmony...then back to this amazing chorus.
4. Cigaro
My c**k is much bigger thank yours! My c**k can walk right through the door! Those are the opening words to Cigaro, another instant classic. This song is not only funny but yep you guessed it...catchy too. This song was leaked a while ago so it's the song I am most familiar with. Everytime I hear it I can't help but sing along and sometimes dance along. (Trust me, you don't want to see me dance along.) This song is loud 100% of the time. No slowing down, just non-stop nonsense the way I like it.
5. Radio/Video
This song starts off a bit slow, with what sounds like a Harmonica and guitar. Just like Revenga this song kicks in about 20 seconds in. Then you hear Serj singing "Hey man! Look at me rocking out! I'm on the Radio!" Okay...just to let you know, all of the songs are freaking catchy! You should know this by now! My brain has all of these new catchy songs in my head and it can't pick just one to repeat! My brain hurts! (nothing new). Anyway where was I. Ah yes. Parts of this song sound like some beach song from the 80's, but it fits in just perfect. Suddenly it goes from Miami beach music to jewish festival music! (what?!) Serj and Daron once again singing together perfectly "la la la la! La la la la! la la la la!" The song gets faster and faster and fastrererer.AEasd972639@(#^!@^! Phew! Back to the Chorus! "Woooooooo! I'm on the Radio!!!"
6. This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I'm On This Song
Bang Bang! Bang Bang! This song starts off loud and crazy and it stays that way! It's a fast paced crazy ride through music! "Theres nothing wrong with me! Theres something wrong with you! Theres something wrong with me!" The vocals go from low pitched to high pitched, it's a real brain f**k for lack of a better term. But it's still a great track. The track name explains this song perfectly. You feel like you just snorted a butt-load of cocaine and got kicked in the balls. It's awesome.
7. Violent Pornography
This song starts off kind of happy fast paced Weird Al style with Daron and Serj singing "Everybody everybody everybody living now everybody everybody everybody f**ks" Then the chorus comes in and I feel like I'm back in the 80's. The chorus is pretty random and funny, but it explains the track name perfectly. "Its a violent pornagraphy, choking chicks and sodomy, the kind of s**t thats on your TV". The thing that makes it so funny is you'd expect the song to be more hardcore and well violent, it's actually the complete opposite. Another great track from the crazy minds of System of a Down.
8. Question!
Starts off with some calm acoustic guitars and then BANG the heavy guitars kick in and before they start it goes back to this kind of mexican dance tune with people clapping in the background. It then kicks back into a heavy/acoustic mix and back to the mexican-esque music. back and forth back and forth. But somehow they make it all fit together. It's an amazing track that you want to listen too over and over again. It sounds like a really moving love song almost, made just for you, then it kicks back into this hyper crazy mexican love fest. I really can't explain this song, but I can tell you it's another one of my favorite tracks.
9. Sad Statue
This song starts off with the guitar doing that weird 'wa-wa' thing, with distortion mixed in as well. The song reminds me alot of the style of music on Steal This Album, but it still has a fresh sound. Picture the entire Steal This Album CD mashed together into one song mixed with a bit of 'BAM!'...Yeah, I can't picture that either. Just trust me, it's cool.
10. Old School Hollywood
I LOVE this song. Just because it's 100% nothing like anything SoaD has ever done. It mixes 80's techno music with modern rock. That's why it's called Old School Hollywood. "Tony danza cuts in line (old school hollywood, washed up hollywood)" This song is really in a leauge of it's own. This song needs it's own religion or something. I mean MAN is it good. Daron does a good portion of the vocals in this song, while Serj kind of helps the chorus along. Great song, now if you'll excuse me I need to pray to the Washed up Hollywood God.
11. Lost In Hollywood
The CD comes to an end How sad. Daron does all the vocals in this song. He really shows himself off with this song. The lyrics are amazing, the vocals are great and the mellow relaxed music stays mellow and relaxed the entire time, the song sometimes starts to go up to a 'climax' but it crawls back down. This song is 5 mins and 22 secs long and it closes the CD with perfection. "You shouldve never trusted hollywood" After this song you feel so good inside, it's just such a calm tune, you don't want it to end. But...it does. Sucks huh? I guess you'll just have to wait for Hypnotize this fall.
Overall this album is System of a Downs BEST album. The creativity is really flowing here. From the music to the lyrics, everything is made to perfection. System of a Down was released and people were amazed by it's unique heavy sounds. Toxicity was released and fans rejoiced as they got something 100% different from the first album. Steal This Album came out and fans once again rejoiced at the unique and amazing songs. Now Mezmerize comes out...and fans are mezmerized. Honestly, buy this CD when it comes out on May 17th. (I have my copy pre-ordered!) You won't be dissapointed. After that you can sit in your basement listening to Mezmerize until Hypnotize comes out in the fall.
