Yeah, Bob Rock (their producer since the black album) played bass on the album.
Most of the songs were recorded in one pass, everyone playing together, whereas usually the drum track is laid down first, following with the rhythm parts and then leads and vocals. Bob said that sometimes the guitar amps weren't even mic-ed, that they were leaking through the drum overhead mics (or vice versa, that the cymbals leaked through the amp mics, I can't remember now).
And Christ, that ****ing trash can of a snare drum. That ****ing thing = insta-headache. ****ing terrible.
I can understand how some people say this album was James' therapy, and I can respect that he was going through a hard time and needed an outlet. But for the love of ****, you don't go ripping your fans off by selling them this kind of crap.
Anyone remember Metallica's stance on piracy? Now I wonder, since they believe so strongly in the cause (against piracy), how do they feel about stealing $20 from millions of fans, who were told that St. Anger was going to be a return to their roots? The only thing St. Anger and Master of Puppets or ...And Justice for All have in common is that most of the songs are around 8 minutes long.
St. Anger sucks. James sucks. Lars sucks. Kirk should quit the band and benefit from his talent. Trujillo should've stayed with Ozzy.
Metallica raped my childhood.
