St.Anger

Am i the only one in the universe who enjoys this CD? I mean sure it's NOTHING like older Metallica, and compared to there other stuff it's garbage...but just alone it's pretty good. Sure they repeat the chorus in each song like 12 times, but the songs are pretty catchy. I mean for what it is I don't find it bad.
Think while it's still legal.

I've heard some of their St. Anger songs "live" on TV, and they were pretty good. The CD, though, is so badly produced that it gives me a headache to listen to it.

I noticed a lot of Microphone muffling sounds on the CD too. Didn't they record the CD in some old empty house to get a more 'dirty' sound?

I'm pretty sure that's just bad recording. Actually, isn't there something around like he recorded those vocals on the run? Like in a car? Or at his house?

Cons:
• Production terrible
• Lyrics make me cringe so hard my face implodes
• Repetitive
• No solos

Pros:
• Some riffs good
• New bass player is better than Jason Newsted (in terms of technical ability, at least)

I've only heard a few songs off that album, and I'm not a fan of Metallica, really, but... that is probably the worst drumset sound that I've ever heard.

don't worry, St. Anger was probably the worst album drum wise. Now for good drums check out Master of Puppets and Justice for All....those are some insane drums.

Agreed, the drum sound = the equivalent of what I imagine the screaming in the the pits of hell to sound like.

Listen to this

It's a song this guy did to make fun of St Anger and how bad it was. However, once you hear his drum sound you realize how much it sounds Lars. Also, the song is funnier if you've heard the story on how St Anger was recorded and the story behind it all.

How he duplicated the drum sound? He hit a metal chair...

He didn't play bass on the CD. They picked up Rob Trujillo after the CD had been recorded.

The CD was recorded in an old wharehouse at the Presidio in San Fransisco. It wasn't recorded in a sound proof booth, but rather just in the studio. That's why there are a lot of echos and similar sounds on the CD.

Yeah, Bob Rock (their producer since the black album) played bass on the album.

Most of the songs were recorded in one pass, everyone playing together, whereas usually the drum track is laid down first, following with the rhythm parts and then leads and vocals. Bob said that sometimes the guitar amps weren't even mic-ed, that they were leaking through the drum overhead mics (or vice versa, that the cymbals leaked through the amp mics, I can't remember now).

And Christ, that ****ing trash can of a snare drum. That ****ing thing = insta-headache. ****ing terrible.

I can understand how some people say this album was James' therapy, and I can respect that he was going through a hard time and needed an outlet. But for the love of ****, you don't go ripping your fans off by selling them this kind of crap.

Anyone remember Metallica's stance on piracy? Now I wonder, since they believe so strongly in the cause (against piracy), how do they feel about stealing $20 from millions of fans, who were told that St. Anger was going to be a return to their roots? The only thing St. Anger and Master of Puppets or ...And Justice for All have in common is that most of the songs are around 8 minutes long.

St. Anger sucks. James sucks. Lars sucks. Kirk should quit the band and benefit from his talent. Trujillo should've stayed with Ozzy.

Metallica raped my childhood. :(

The songs I did left me feeling unimpressed. I saw no reason to shell out money for it. I'm quite satisfied with all my pre-St. Anger albums.

I hate Metallica, and St.Anger isn't an exception.

If you like it, have fun. :)

Yeah. If the snare weren't so loud and echoed (for a lack of a better word), the songs would be much easier to listen to.

Uncharistically BAD lyrics. (Okay... bad for James Hetfield)
Dumb album name.
Poor production
Bad songs.

Thats what made St. Anger sucked.

Even with EXCELLANT production, it still would have sucked.
