Bands that grow on you...

It always happens with me. Someone will play me something that I initially despise but end up liking it later on. It happened with Jump, Little Children (who soon became one of my favorite bands) and it just recently happened with Franz Ferdinand. I have avoided their album like the plague after hearing Take Me Out and thinking it was a random collection of riffs and dance beats........ ya, I just bought the Special Edition of it off of iTunes. I also initially hated Razorlight... but they're starting to grow on my too.

Some bands I've hated HATED HHHHHHHAAAAAATED but are now among my favorites:

U2
Jump, Little Children
Travis
Franz Ferdinand
The Killers
Modest Mouse, although I still hate most of their stuff
Sting
Moby
Weezer
The Features, I saw them live and was like "What the hell?" Now I think they're awesome...
The Shins
Ben Folds
Phantom Planet
David Bowie
Starsailor
Radiohead
"Those ****ing amateurs... You left your dog, you idiots!"

Good call on Joy Division. They had to grow on me. Except for the song Love Will Tear Us Apart, I liked that right away. It also took a while for New Order to grow on me.

Same for The Beatles.

I don't think I've heard a single album that was produced by Steve Albini that I actually liked at first. Nirvana's In Utero, The Pixies' Surfer Rosa, and The Breeders' Title TK all had to grow on me.

Wilco

The Streets

Yeah, Love Will Tear Us Apart and Disorder are both songs which took one listen for me to enjoy, but the rest took a while to really love.

Oh, I realized I love Fugazi/Minor Threat so much now that I had forgotten I ever had a hard time listening to some of their stuff. Red Medicine by Fugazi is now without a doubt one of my favorite albums.

Totally agree with The Streets. When I first heard them, it was "WTF? English rap?". After a while though, I couldn't get enough.

Radiohead - Couldn't stand them, now my favorite band.

The Beatles - My parents did it to me, and I couldn't thank them enough.

Keane - Didn't really like his voice at first, but one day it clicked.

Muse - Thought they were just okay, until I heard Showbiz.

Explosions In The Sky - Wasn't into them at first, but they are an amazing band.

1 Mile North - Wasn't into the ambiance sound, but they grew on me alot.

Franz Feridand - Never really disliked them, but they grew on me alot as I listened to them.

Modest Mouse - Disliked them at first, but I listned to the whole CD and couldn't stop.

Bruce Springsteen - My dad turned me on to him, good stuff.

The Beach Boys - ^ Same thing

I have Repeater + 3 Songs, or whatever it's called. I didn't like it, then I lost it. When I found it a year later, I liked it.

My problem with Fugazi is that they have so many albums, it's hard to know which to get.

I'm still not sure if I like the song "It Was Supposed to Be So Easy" though.

Good one. My dad got me into them too. I think they have about three really good albums, and then a lot of crappy songs mixed in with a lot of truely brilliant songs.

You don't have to like every song a band puts out there. ;)

Radiohead. The first thing I heard from them was "Fake Plastic Trees" (which I love now), but at the time, I really didn't get why people said it was so great. I wasn't really into music at the time though, I would listen to the radio on occasion, but that's about it. Now, Radiohead is one of my favorite bands, and I recently bought one of the singles of "Fake Plastic Trees."

I was referring to the fact that while Detty claims he likes all the stuff by his favourite bands, he surely can't say The Carpenter is good. I mean, it's false and all.

In fairness, Nightwish doesn't feature on my top 2 favourite bands, and I haven't heard The Carpenter.

If you Repeater + 3 songs (one of my favorites) get 13 Songs and Red Medecine. After you have those, you'll probably enjoy every other album of theres.

I haven't heard any Nightwish (but I did see the movie, and it was horrible).

Anyway, I'd say that the bands I found hard to adapt to were:

- System of a Down
- Megadeth
- Emerson, Lake, and Palmer
