What's this mic for?
2005-05-29, 3:44 PM #1
While snooping through my church's attic, I came across this broken mic. So I took it home and fixed it. All I know is that it's a dynamic mic, made by Shure, and is a Unidyne III. Is there some specific application for this mic?

Also, the mic is very blurry.

A mic that blurry should be thrown away. It's probably a firehazard.

The Unidyne III is also known as the 545, IIRC. It's an old predecessor to the SM57, which is used mostly for guitar cabinet micing, snare drums, and to some extent, vocals.

I think it's frequency response was something like 60-15000 hz, probably not the best for vocal work or anything with delicate high-end. I think it's probably best used on a guitar amp or a snare drum, but I'd try it on anything.

That's actually what I thought it's for. Lucky guess.

And it does say 545L on it.
