Hey, one of my friends came to my house and downloaded a bit of trance on my computer. He said that they are all very popular and not too obscure, but they're great. Can anyone recommend any more trance? (Artists and songs would be great, but albums would be even better!)

Stuff I like that I found on my comp
Rank 1 - Airwave
DJ Tiesto - Adagio for Strings
Solar Stone
Juno Reactor
Paul Van Dyk

Anymore highlights from these artists that I should check out?

Thanks guys.

Pistolero by Juno Reactor is excellent. I also have their "Bible of Dreams" album and it's pretty cool, especially God is God.

If you're into trance I guess Sasha and Digweed and Breeder are cool. I dunno.

Prodigy and Orbital

Go ahead and bash me, I just know those off the top of my head hehe

Here's some cool music videos:

Gouryella - ligaya (this one's really weird)

Armin Van Buuren - Shivers By far not his best track - and for something that's meant to be tragic, armin looks WAAAAY too happy in that video :p

Chicane ft. Bryan Addams - Don't give up (Catchy song, kickass video to go with it)

Kai Tracid - Too many times (this is my personal favorite (plus the girl is hawt :p))

Kai Tracid - 4 just 1 day (this one is cheesy, but I like it anyways)

If you like Juno Reactor, you should preorder their Live In Tokyo DVD, which comes out on 06/21. They're also planning to tour North America this year. They've been one of my favorites since around 1999, so feel free to ignore my excitement at other people here listening to them.

Like Flexor, I could go on for ages. However, I lack the time. Let me know if you need specific tracks/albums, although 99% of the above artists are consistantly great.

Warp Records and Ninja Tune labels are your frieeeends.

At least if you're looking for something more eclectic and less monotonous in electronica. They aren't very trancey or populistic (which is juuuust fine by me). Plenty of furious and paranoid drum'n'bass, and great breakbeat though. And hey, they've got Luke Vibert/Wagon Christ, Autechre, Squarepusher, Aphex Twin, Jamie Lidell, Boards of Canada, Amon Tobin, Bonobo, DK, DJ Food, Coldcut, Hexstatic, The Herbaliser, Mr Scruff, and Up, Bustle, and Out.

Do look up the terrordrome remix of Schnappi (das kleinen krokodil). It is most hilarious.
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

Speaking of labels, make sure to check out my favorite, Ultimae, where you can listen to clips from every song by each of their artists.

kinda

I'd avoid aphrodite as it's more of a niche genre of DnB and not necessarily what you're looking for. That is, unless, you're willing to take a chance :)

Tiesto is a crappy producer, and not even that great of a DJ either.

Honestly, I stopped listening to trance once I discovered the aural-gasm that is DnB.

I guess you're right on the Aphrodite, and Dj Tiesto loses its appeal after you listen to really good techno and of course orgasmic DnB. I love DnB though. It's such good...pure music.

While Tiesto does have alot of mediocre music, I'd have to disagree with the 2 previous posters. He has some GREAT tracks, many of which are amongst the best out there. The In Search Of Sunrise series is a masterpiece.

To me, DnB has always felt like an incomplete genre. It's like listening to a band where everyone died in a freak plane crash except the drummer.

You listen to crappy DnB. I can totally agree with you about some of it, but check out
Vector Burn
Concord Dawn
Raiden
Ill Skillz
Klute

All awesome, melodic DnB artists.

Also, you do realize he didn't write any track on "In search of Sunrise" except the very last one? He just mixed them, he's a DJ not a producer. The tracks he does write suck. Hard.

Also, I know it's BSP but it fits in this thread.

http://www.narshaddaa.net/~maggot/newmix.zip

That's a link to my mix, me DJing. The tracklisting is:
1. Vector Burn - Oxygen Freeze (VIP) (4:00)
2. D.Kay & Epsilon - Platinum (Ill.Skillz Remix) (2:11)
3. Chris Su - Astrosine (Ill.Skillz Remix) (2:54)
4. Concord Dawn - Shinkansen (2:54)
5. Raiden - Fallin' (Friction Remix) (2:10)
6. Rawthang - Scorned (3:16)
7. Concord Dawn - Morning Light (VIP) (2:32)
8. Concord Dawn - Take me Away (3:16)
9. Ill.Skillz - Forgive Myself (D.Kay Remix) (1:49)
10. Ill.Skillz - Be There 4 U (Concord Dawn Remix) (1:16)
11. Ed Rush & Optical - Goodfoot (2:10)
12. Concord Dawn - Guardian Angel (2:10)
13. Klute - Evo Sniffer (1:49)
14. Kemal & Rob Data - ****ing Hostile (2:21)
15. Black Sun Empire - The Sun (2:32)
16. Concord Dawn - Mutationz (Remix) (1:27)
17. Concord Dawn - Raining Blood (2:33)
18. 18. Tech Itch - The Calling.mp3
19. 19. Konflict - Messiah.mp3
20. 20. Universal Project - Haunted Dreams.mp3
21. 21. Tech Itch - The Ruckus (D.Kay VIP).mp3
22. 22. Kemal & Rob Data - Possession.mp3
23. 23. Dom & Roland - Terrorist (Remix).mp3
24. 24. Ed Rush & Optical - Pacman (Ram Trilogy Remix).mp3
25. 25. Tech Itch & Kemal - Signal Trace.mp3

It's very melodic, very trancey. If you don't like DnB because it seemed "incomplete" or "droning" please check this out. I'm not the best DJ, but just listen to the tracks themselves. They rock. Hard. ;)

I'll DL it and give it a shot, and yes, my DnB experience has been limited to artists such as Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, and the like (which were the main two artists I was describing in my plane crash scenario). They're decent, but they leave much to be desired.

They are technically IDM, with a slight hint of DnB. IDM is very much like a plane crash lol.

Southern sun, Urban train, In my memory, Lethal industry... all huge trance classics. I know it's really 'in' to hate Tiesto, but you can't tell me all those tracks suck and expect me to take you seriousely.

Didn't say they suck. I said the one he wrote sucked. The rest are great, but he didn't write them.

BTW I don't hate tiesto cuz it's cool, I've seen him live several times cuz it was a decent show. Of course, he's a DJ, and doesn't play many of his own tracks which helped things a bit.

Aphex Twin has some really good tracks (Flim and Xtal are two of my fav's) as do Squarepusher (Iambic 9 and 5 poetry. Thanks Chris ;)) but for the most part, yeah.

For some good melodic DnB, check out:

Omni Trio vs. Higher Ground - The Angels and Shadows Project

Freaky Flow & Pj - Mist

Alex Reece - Jazz Master

All really great, very melodic, and some of my favorite DnB tracks period.

I like the Swordfish Album by oakenfold, and Perfecto Presents Another World

Through strength I gain power
Through power I gain victory
Through victory my chains are broken
