Ok, I not sure if anyone remembers the recording of an original song I recorded on guitar a little month or 2 back. But it was really noisy. Anyway, with lack of money I'm still using the same setup which is:

Guitar -> Metal zone distortion -> 4 Track -> Computer -> Sonar 4

I recorded a simple riff from Lamb of God and I saved the raw recording and then I added some effects via Sonar to help the sound a little bit. Tell me what you think about it.

here's the raw recording (2 guitar tracks)

And here's after said effects

Effects I used were Amp Sim, FxChorus, Multiband. Dont crit the song, as I know I made a couple mistakes but I'm just looking for what you think about if the effects make it sound better.

yeah see that's what happens when you record guitar direct without any speaker emulaton the sound tends to be noisy

while yes there are situations where such a sound works (listen to the day the world went away by NIN... many layers of guitar with some definate direct fuzz box action) most situations you want some type of speaker emulation or an actual cabinet with a mic in front of it
eat right, exercise, die anyway

What is this speaker emulation you speak of?

I also haven't got that many good results with a mic'd amp. It's not cabinet and head, but the amp sounds good and can be loud. I suppose I don't have the right kind of microphone. I will mess with it some more though in the future probably.

My amp has 3 speaker simulators, which basically let you plug in headphones or a line out (ie to the computer) and it will sound like it's actually being played on an amp.

And I actually like the the sound you got using the effects. It's pretty cool.
