All right, so I've got the new Foo Fighters CD.
Amazing.
Okay, so the first half of the CD is your traditional Foo Fighters brand rock, nothing totally new, but still superb music. The title track, "In Your Honor" has an insane build that really sets the mood for the entire album. Other stand out tracks include "The Last Song", "Best Of You", and "End Over End". The whole band seems a heckuva lot tighter than on the last album. Grohl's yells and croonings couldn't sound better.
On to the last half of the album. A departure from their usual stuff, the Foo have put out a set of about 10 acoustic songs, which are some of the best songs I've ever heard. I'm more into the harder, distorted guitar stuff most of the time, but I find myself listening to this half of the album a lot more. Grohl's songwriting and singing is so much more passionate, and fits perfectly with some of the beautiful guitar licks, which continue to give me chills after the 5th or 6th time I hear them. All these songs are superb, but some of the best include "Still", "Another Round", "Over And Out". If my instincts serve me right, some of these songs will garner the same appeal as Grohl's amazing acoustic take of "Everlong", in due time.
And in a collaboration with Norah Jones, the Foo take a break from the usual and put out a very nice jazzy tune, "Virginia Moon", which I've listened to about 10 times now.
Okay, so if you don't have this album, go get it! Even if you don't like the Foo Fighters' usual stuff, there's bound to be AT LEAST one song on here you'll like.
