Music Software?
2005-06-17, 3:36 PM #1
Hey, I was wondering if any of you knew of any good music composition software. Mainly, I want something that has a 4 instrument setup at least (lead guitar, rythm guitar, bass and drums) and each instrument's sound can be changed (as far as effects and what not go). I'd also like the program to have playback capabilities for all instruments or just selected instruments if possible. Anyone know of any nice quality programs that can do this?

Cakewalk Home Studio.

Or Finale.

EDIT: I don't know if Finale can play selected instruments or not.

Just to clarify, Guitar Pro does all of what you asked for, and it allows you to make the music in both tablature and standard notation.

Are you wanting something you'd use to record with, or something you'd use to create a song completely on your PC (like a lot of people do around here with FruityLoops)?

I'm going for creating the songs all on my computer.

You'd want FruityLoops, I think.

I'd use both. Guitar-Pro to sequence, because you can write stuff out in tab form, and then import into Fruity to use with a sampler or (ugh) guitar synth, so that you can add effects (eq, compression, delay, verb, chorus, etc).

Just FYI, there are ZERO good guitar synths. Period. You'll need to record a live one if you want something that doesn't sound like videogame music.

If someone can prove me wrong, please do because I need one since I suck at guitar.

I think Slayer 2 is excellent, though it takes a bit of tweaking and effects to sound nice. It's an absolute CPU whore though..
