Another new song...

...another new thread lacking a creative title. :o

This one's written by my drummer (actually, the last one was partially by him, too). It's just me and him in the recording, and not the whole band. I think he thought it would be quicker to record that way.

Anyway, he's playing guitar, drums, bass, and singing lead. His voice isn't great, but sounded better with some tweaking. I added in all the electric guitar stuff and backup vocals. I'm not sure how I managed to come up with that guitar solo, since I usually can't even play something that covers that many octaves, much less create it.

The song itself is kinda weird, imo, mostly because of the stuff I added. It's rock-like, with a kind of retro feel to it. For some reason, my backup vocals remind me of punk, even though it's not a punk song, nor do I like punk all too much. *shrug*

I Can't Wait - Soundclick or Pure Volume

Only thing that I can't seem to fix is the noise on the lead vocal track. Are there no good noise reducers out there? :(

"I cant wait" was ok, the voice is good I reckon, but needs a little more practise to get the pitch just right.

"Trust" however I really like.
Voice is greatest in this. Just needs a little touch on the recording.
Like controlling the volume of all instruments, compressing etc, perhaps a little snazzy effect here and there.

I was expecting something crap just like most christian music, but fortunately I wasnt struck down with the vile powers of faith :p

Sound goods, other than some sketchy vocal spots. The bass is a little loud, IMO. The electric guitars aren't present enough (again, IMO), you could probably just EQ some lows out and boost the upper-mids and get some more presence and crunch out of them.

Great song, BTW. :)

Here's the noise gate that I use.

His vocals are *very* hard to mix. I kept bringing up the guitars, but they'd drown out his voice in places. I keep editing the wave, but... I dunno. Strange. I'll have to try that noise gate, too. Hopefully it works in Cool Edit Pro. Most of my DirectX plugins don't, even though it supports them. :(

/me kicks my computer

[edit: BTW, that's the slowest website I've ever been to.]

We had nobody to mix when we recorded. We're going to all re-record again someday when I get a beefed up laptop and some hardware. As it is right now, we don't have a way to do a decent recording as a whole band. Unless I record everyone individually, which usually tends to kill the feeling of a song, imo. We might re-record I can't wait as a whole band, too, instead of just two of us. I'm transcribing it now (because I tend to forget how I played stuff), and plus I'll need to teach some of the parts to our other guitarist.
