I had heard before of morse through many of john petrucci's instructionnal books and interviews, dubbing him as an alternate picking monster, and one of Petrucci's (and many others!) big influence.

I recently came across his grammy awarded cd, High Tension Wires, and came to hear the dreaded "tumeni notes" everyone told me about.

You want to hear a monster? morse is one. he played with the dixie dregs, deep purple, and the steve morse band, and is pretty much one of the original shredders out there.

his site has a wide variety of lessons and material for everyone to practice, and if you do it according to his technique, it's insane. I know i hadn't thought of alternate picking through arpeggios, but now it makes a -lot- of sense to use it instead of sweep picking. it's harder, but gives a hell of a lot more control.

Saw him play with Deep Purple. He owns me. :(

But so did Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani, Neal Schon, and Eddie Van Halen.

I met him and talked to him for a while after one of his shows with Deep Purple last year. He showed me a few of his original Steve Morse Ernie Ball Music Mans, told me a few of his secrets, etc. I met Joe Satriani at the same concert, but didn't really get to say anything to him more than a few words.

Was really cool, just standing sidestage watching the Deep Purple set talking to Thin Lizzy's bassist and Morse's guitar tech.

dammit rob when'd you get so predictable!?

And yeah, morse seems to be the friendly type kind of guy. I'm sure satch is just as friendly, but morse is older so they get a bit senile after all this touring... just look at ozzy! :p

One of my friend's fathers used to play in a band with Scott Gorham from Thin Lizzy(the only original member left in the band). Scott got us tickets and backstage passes to the Thin Lizzy/Satriani/Deep Purple show and the after party. He got us sidestage and everything, introduced us to people, etc.

They're all really nice, open people. Heh, Steve is like a kid himself on the inside, he noticed some kid wearing a pair of Etnies and (no exageration at all) said "Cool!! Etnies! My son wears those!". I got to talk with Don Airey( keyboardist who played with Sabbath( could have been just Ozzy), Jethro Tull, and Gary Moore. We ended up going into this long conversation how his son was in the hospital dying of cancer, and he gave him some Satriani cd's/tapes, and later a guitar, and how he was so inspired by the music and wanted to play, ended up surviving.
