Guitar Electronics Problem

So, I have an Epiphone Les Paul I'm supposed to be fixing, and I can't find anything wrong with it (physically). The neck pickup doesn't work, but when I put something metal to it (which makes it pop), it will work until I toggle the switch to the bridge pickup and back again. What the heck does that mean? Bad switch?

Thats just... wow.

I need to replace the pickups on my guitar...

They suck. All they do is hiss and pop.

If they're single-coil, hissing is quite common. I've never heard pickups that randomly pop, though.

Well yeah, they are.

But man.. these suckers, thats like all they do. :P

It's a cheap guitar, they're probably cheap pickups. (Regarding mine)

Have you taken it apart at all?

Yes, everything's connected fine. I checked the pickup for broken or frayed wires, they're fine, too.

[BTW, you can get good pickups on ebay. I got my DuckBucker for only $31. If you want to get rid of that fuzz, I reccomend some kind of humbucker. You can, of course, get single-coil sized if that's what fits your guitar.]
