I was wondering if anyone here who is good at music composition and has a nice quality program for creating music would do a HUGE favor for me. I need a song that already exists to be re-made, but with strings and a few horns. The song is "The Thing That Should Not Be" by Metallica, and I would like for it to sound like Bernard Hermann composed it (if you're not sure of his work, I can probably get a few songs to you). Also, the entire song does not need to be made, just about a minute or so into it. This would be a great help if anyone can do this.

The point is mainly for me to get a sense of what it would be like in the Hermann style, since that is what I would want to use unless it doesn't sound the way I think it will. And since I really don't expect some Jerry Goldsmith professional, orchestral composition. Just something thrown together since I really can't pay.

For your movie, I assume?

Correct. But, I'm not even done with the majority of the script yet, and eons away from talking to any studios that might want to buy it once it's done (if it even gets done, I might not talk to any studios). So, you don't have to worry about getting screwed over or anything like that. If this thing does actually make it to a studio, I'm sure that there will be a more professional means of getting a composition.

My only suggestion is to check out The Thing That Should Not Be off of S&M; it's Metallica playing with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra.

You can even turn the band off and listen to the orchestra only if you so desire (on the DVD).

I'm assuming you're already very familiar with S&M, however.

Well, I don't expect any of you to go out and hire a bunch of professional musicians in order to accomplish this. That would just be silly (especially since I can't pay you).

A program called Guitar Pro would probably help you out. This webpage has a collection of 339 Metallica tabs for said program--some of which include accompaniment--and all of which can be played as and converted to .midi as well as changed to sound like violins, or whatever you so desire. I mean, hell, you could make it sound like a symphony of glockenspiels.

Which would be spectacular and amazing!!!!!!!!!! Not to mention beautous!!!! :) :)

What you're asking, even if it's only a minute's worth, would be a good bit of work.

Not necessarily. I just got the Guitar Pro demo and imported one of the .gp3 files into it and changed the instruments from guitars to violas and chellos. Took all of 10 minutes and it actually doesn't sound too bad. Just gotta fix a part cause it keeps changing from viola back to electric guitar and that throws it off.

To do an actual arrangement in a certain composer's style would take some doing.

Yes, I know. I would like that to be the final product when it comes to it, but if you'd see a few posts down from my original, I said I just wanted something thrown together for the time being.
