Concert Reviews

Holy whoa, Boston has a ridiculous amount of shows. I want to preface this by saying that I know pretty much nothing about music in general, so expect innacuracies and perhaps even my own opinion. In the first two weeks of school, much to the decline of my studies :o, I've gone to the following concerts:

Xiu Xiu:
I had never heard Xiu Xiu before going to this concert, but I had had nothing better to do that afternoon, so I decided to hit up the show with a new friend of mine and some girl he'd known from high school. We entered the basement of this bar with X's markered on our hands from the door (I always thought this was confined to informing the bartenders that we were below the drinking age, not some sick fashion statement) and caught the end of the openers, who appeared to be washed out rock&rollers.

Xiu Xiu then took the stage, but my friend had warned me that it was just a guy with a guitar and some chick with a box of doom that had an accordion panel. He started playing his music and I had to leave after 3 songs. I went outside, got some ice cream, and chatted it up with the openers... ok, I just gave them a fake compliment. Anyway, when I got back in, I caught the last two songs. Xiu Xiu was just... too weird for me. The last song was him singing about being a little girl who was sexually abused and grew up as a guy to the tune of electric guitar and pathetic electromelodies.

Of Montreal:
I had gone to an Of Montreal concert before, and while my friends had enjoyed it, I had not. This wasn't any fault of the music's, though, I was just pissed off about other things at the time, and someone stole my concert t-shirt. When I came this time, I came with a really hot girl, and the entire basement of this bar was jumping around to the upbeat, poppy music. The lead singer's flamboyantly gay agttire later on the show always creeps me out a bit, and his voice is a little weird, too, but otherwise, it was an amazing show, and I had an awesome time. I declared it one of the best concerts I've ever attended.

CAKE:
F YEAH. I heard about this free concert literally moments before it happened and hauled on over to check it out. By the time I got there, Finch had already finished opening, but I've never listened to them, so I really didn't care. The buddy who informed me about the concert said he was by the 'white tent', which I somehow assumed was the huge tent covering the stage, so I crowd surfed over to the very front. It turned out he was by this little tent in the back, and while I missed him, I didn't miss an amazing view and free everclear being passed around. I've enjoyed CAKE since I was introduced to them in sophomore year, but I stopped listening to them for a while, and this was a rfefreshing return.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
These guys appeared in the basement of my school's Student Union, and all day, people were IMing me about how jealous they were I was getting to see them. I was literally 5 feet from the lead singer, and my oh my was it amazing.

Sigur Ros:
I'm sorry. I don't see what's so great about these guys. Maybe I was having a bad day, but I fell asleep on several occasions during the concert. The final song, however, was pretty mindblowing.

Go ahead and post some concert reviews!

HOLY ****

I know it was good, but I can't really remember it because I was off my face so much of the time.

memorable acts:

Queens of the Stone Age
Pixies
Incubus
Hot Hot Heat
Babyshambles
Blood Brothers

Every band that I saw were excellent, if not better, except Funeral For A Friend and Elbow.

I spent most my time getting wrecked, sat at the campsite for 4 days and nights.

It was my 4th leeds and I cannot wait to return next year!

Holy crap, you saw all of those bands? Those are some pretty big and influential groups. My friend's band opened up for Of Montreal once... that was cool. Sigur Ros is definitely not rock-out music, and it isn't for everyone... but I wouldn't fall asleep during it. :( Cake is cool, and so is Xiu Xiu, although I haven't heard Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.
