60's - 80's Era British Bands
2005-10-01, 1:31 PM #1
I have a very limited knowledge of music in general, and someone will probably shout at me for missing someone major, but I was curious if anyone still listened to or liked any of these bands.

Also, why is it that the Brits seem to have (maybe had) such a major part of the music industry in the 60's - 80's era. Considering how much smaller it is than the U.S., it just seems to have had a lot of great bands come out of it, or at least during that time. Maybe, well-known is a better word.

Don't get me wrong, the U.S. has awesome bands, but it just seems like the U.K. seemed to dominate this era. Does anyone else know what I mean or care to agree/disagree?

Another thought which ocurred to me is that the U.S. might be better known for indivdual artists/singers whereas the U.K. was maybe better known for its groups?

Please discuss.

I voted pink floyd.

Pink Floyd ftw.

I voted for all, but almost didn't vote for The Rolling Stones.

I voted for none, although I almost selected Led Zep because I almost confused it with Def Leppard.

Go Def!

I voted for everyone of those except BeeGees.

Even though Joy Division + New Order would also have gotten my votes.

Of those? The beatles.

The lack of Judas Priest saddens me.

Sweet Lord, I didn't even notice, there's no The Who on there
2005-10-01, 2:54 PM #18
In addition to what has been mentioned before (especially The Who, and Cream), there is a distinct lack of The Kinks! [edit: T-Rex too!]
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

You can shut up.

After posting an ENTIRE THREAD ABOUT A CONCERT on the dsicussion forum INSTEAD of in the music forum, you don't get to talk.

And the reason you gave for doing so SUCKED.

Henceforth, you lose.
2005-10-01, 6:38 PM #24
My thread wasn't even about the music though. It was about my first time experience at a concert. If someone posted a thread about going to a dance club with some friends, they wouldn't post it in the music forum because music was playing, they would post it in this forum because it's about their experience, not about the music. This thread is asking about music. It belongs in the Music Forum.

I voted pink floyd, but I'm also taking this opportunity to put my apparent n00bness on the table. I've been trying to work this out for a while, but i still haven't nutted it out - what does the acronym FTW mean?
