(no, not the actor)
Yesterday I was in a pub I frequent when the DJ starts playing a song which was new to me, but in my intoxicated state sounded really cool. So I asked him who the artist was and he showed me the front of the album: Seanpenn. Apparently they gave a free show in that very pub I frequent a week or so earlier. Which unfortunately I missed.
So I wrote it down on my hand to be reminded of it this afternoon.
So I started searching the internet to finally find their site: http://www.seanpenn.nl/ (I could've just guessed it)
Now the cool thing is that they're indie and have all their released music for download on their site. Yay! So I did some downloading and found it still very worthwile even when sober (Something which is not always the case )
I'm not very good in describing music but here's some terms that are used on the site (also the dutch part of the site is a bit more extensive, but for most of you unreadable):
"In the final days of postpunk-pre-nuelectro comes seanpenn out of the will to create beautiful songs in a light electronic and experimental indie form." (roughly translated)
"some will call it emo-core, seanpenn calls it popcore"
"Mostly in the US and Canada reactions are good and their first single "Astronaut" becomes a culthit in the indie-emo-underground" (translated)
If I'd have to call it something I'd say it's indie experimental rock with some electronica influences. Though they also have some accoustic songs.
Best is probably to just download and listen. It's free unless you wish to donate, which I'll probably do. What I downloaded from their site today is defenitely worth those mere €4.-.
