Looking at buying my first guitar

Someone I know is selling a Seagull S6+ acoustic-electric guitar. It is listed on Musician's Friend for $569.99, but the guy is willing to sell it for $250. Obviously, this seems like a great deal to me.

I know very little about guitars, so I am bringing along a friend who does know about them. However, I was wondering if anyone has had any experiences with Seagull products or any tips as to what I should look for when I inspect the guitar.

(Maybe it's too nice of a guitar for a beginner, but it seems like such a good deal that I don't want to pass it up)

Thanks for the help!

What are you gonna play? Alternative or *shudder if he says yes* country would probly be best on an acu-elec (and yes, I use that word in real life, funny looks all round). However if you are going for punk or metal, may wanna find a cheap electric to learn on.

I got my first guitar as a beginners pack (guitar and small amp) for about $300ish. That may be the way to go for you, and I would recommend the Peavey setup I got. The guitar doesn't have the best tone, but by time you get good enough to play for/with people, you'll be far enough along to, make a big investment, and get something you'll keep forever.

That is a good deal for an acu-elec, I know the bass I'm borrowing from someone is one, and I found a bill in the case. $600. It's a lovely Axl acu with pickup, plays like a dream, but the bigness of the body just doesn't feel right for a bass. So parents are buying me my own for xmas. :)

Seagull makes pretty damned good acoustic guitars. if you want to learn more about them go to www.godinguitars.com

Godin makes some serious pro electric guitars for low price. and their acoustic/classical divisions are equally awesome.

I'd hit it. I haven't actually played a Seagull yet but I've only heard good things about them.
