BluesKirby FTW!

I want to know what you guys think of my singing voice. I tried out my 2 favorite songs:
I messed up the other 2 tracks. This is all you get, NOT my favorite recording, either:

Key to the Highway

If anyone would be interested in putting guitars over those, I'd appreciate it.

Comments? Suggestions? I don't even know how to read music, and I've NEVER taken any singing lessons or anything, so that should cover any issues you have in tone and whatnot. Basically, I'm looking to see if you guys think I should try to get better, or if it's a waste of time?

Here's more:

Come Rain, or Come Shine
Mr. Jones

I've got ONE more song I'd like to show you to show the diversity of my voice.

Brighter than Sunshine

I might do a little radiohead, but my voice is scratchy right now so I can hit the higher notes in "High and Dry." or the one high note in "Creep."

I'll sing suggested songs if I know it and like it.

Not bad. It's pretty pitchy though. And there's a weird resonance going on. Open up and belt it out, man.

I think from your "Key to the Highway" your voice kind of works for it.

I think your voice has a childish tone to it, but it's not uncontrolled and a little more mature so it's not annoying. For some reason, I just think it sounds good.
I had a blog. It sucked.

Sounds like a cross between Ray Charles and Robbie J, that's a good thing :p. Go for it, you aren't bad.

Thanks for the feedback. Now I ask: Any suggestions on how to go about getting better? I don't have a world of money to invest into it, or much drive to get better. If there's any way I can sort of get good enough for my own purposes, not with intentions of DOING anything with it, how would you suggest I progress?

Keep singing and listening. The thing about blues is that it doesn't take a really trained voice to sing it. By just singing it and widening your base of knowledge, sounds, etc of blues, then you'll develop more and more. That's pretty much the same for getting good at anything, just keep doing it. To write better: read and write more. To play guitar better : listen and learn more. To draw better : watch and draw more.

Learning an instrument wouldn't hurt either, even if it was just harmonica. I can give you some names of my favourite blues artists, if you want suggestions on what to listen to.

I beg to differ. Untrained voices go sharp and flat a lot (ie me about a year ago). Not to mention that singing 7ths doesn't come naturally to most people.

I think he means you don't have to have a voice that sounds perfect. Your voice can be raspy or nasal or whatever. You don't have to have perfect enunciation or loqution or anything.

You're right though. You should always be on tune.

Yes, that's exactly what I meant. There's a difference between having a good voice and singing well for your particular style as opposed to having the ability and range of someone like Jeff Buckley or Freddie Mercury :P
