I'm sure there are some Against Me! fans here who would like to hear this. AM! recently signed to... a major label. *GASP* Sire Records to be precise, which has housed The Ramones, The Replacements, and The Cure among others. They're owned by Warner Bros.
I'm torn. This is one of my favorite punk bands, so it makes me uneasy about this decision. On one hand, I'm proud of them, and I'm glad they're getting what they deserve, as they deserve it more than any other band out there right now. They worked hard to get to this point.
On the other hand, why did they sign to a major at all? They were fine on Fat Wreck... they had good distribution deals, and they were in no way hindered in making their music. I can see no other motive other than making more money, which really bothers me. This is the band that said they want to play loud and hard every night, and don't care how many people show up at the door. They practically sold their principals and morals to this major label. I'm sure the new CD (due out in 2007) will be good, but for what price? It's changed from making music for the love of it... to a career.
I mean, wouldn't it be weird to have Against Me! as a nominee for "best new artist" at the Grammy's?
Oh well. I'm still seing them in DC with Alkaline Trio.

"I'm afraid of OC'ing my video card. You never know when Ogre Calling can go terribly wrong."
