New Metallica Album!?
2006-02-26, 8:36 AM #1
Album Name: ???
Release Date: Summer 2006
Drums that sound like trashcans: No
Guitar Solos: Yes....many a finger explosions will occur.
Producer: Rick Rubin (System of a Down / Red Hot Chili Peppers / Johnny Cash)

That's all I know right now, but it seems they are trying to go back to an oldskool Metallica sound and get the hell away from St. Anger. <3

He also produced one of the worst Cure albums ever.

Dude, I love The Cure.

He produced their last album.

Compare it to anything else they've done, and its crap. It had like one or two okay songs. :(
2006-02-26, 3:00 PM #16
Hey at least this means metallica will be going back to making overproduced music instead of something that sounds like it was recorded using a little casette tape.

SAJN, WTF are you talking about. Californication is easily one of the worst-produced RHCP albums.

Who's to say which one is the worst? They all pretty much suck...

Yeah, but it also has two of TRHCP's best songs...

You're too short to listen to good music.

Seriously. My subwoofer is taller than you are.

Go overcompensate with some more guns.

You've probably heard, what, one Cure song? And it was probably a cover. Yeah.

Because they suck. And is anybody SERIOUSLY looking forward to this after St. Anger? I hoped and prayed that they moved away from the generic crap back MoP and AJfA with the blistering solos and solid thrash metal again, but nope. If I remember right because I never really looked it up after I heard a friends copy of St. Anger (ha, did he hate that, sold it after a week) they didn't even call their tour the "St. Anger Tour", it was simply "The Metallica Tour." It was so bloody sad that they didn't even name the tour after the album.
2006-02-26, 7:35 PM #23
I've heard a few The Cure songs, the only name I can remember though is like The Caterpillar song or Caterpillar or osmething like that.

That's like saying you've heard a few Pink Floyd songs, or a few Led Zeppelin songs. You can't say a band that's been around that long sucks after hearing "a few songs".

Didn't you read the post? They want to move away from St.Anger. They want to have awesome guitar solos in their next CD...and no more trashcan drums.

Metallica have always been distinctly average as metal goes. Whilst i'm glad they're heading back in the direction of their better music, I still can't find myself getting particularly excited about it.

I disagree, unless you're comparing them to those boring, repetetive riffs that exist in Dragonforce, Dream Theater, etc.

Did you just call Dream Theater repetitive and boring? i was going to stay out of this thread but YOU JUST CROSSED THE LINE MISTER

After listening to all their albums, I can successfully say I only like one of their songs enough to listen to it regularly. They are, unfortunately, one of the better bands out there in their genre.

Look, Yoshi we've established that you're almost always wrong so let's just accept that you're wrong in this case too.

Calling DragonForce repetitive is one thing, but calling their riffs reptitive is just plain bizarre since their songs for the most part aren't even riff-based.

Also, Metallica's most popular songs are amongst the most repetitive metal i've ever heard, they are saved purely by reasonably good solos.

BREAKING NEWS: dissing metallica doesnt make you cool.

you sound overly keen to put down a band that has the respect & Admiration of more people you will EVER know, not to mention a thousand times more people that will ever respect the likes of individuals in this thread.

There's a reason why metallica are famous, its cos they're frickin good at what they do.

Stop whining.

nah metallica are ****e :p

fretwanking and headbanging

its canny bland

bring on some fantomas, thats ideal metal, none of that piddly solo crap, fingers crossed their bus crashes again.
2006-02-27, 7:32 AM #33
I seem to have confused Ross Robinson with Rick Rubin.

Mostly out of the serious amount that they both suck.

Also, The Caterpillar is probably one of the most fun Cure tunes around. And if you can't dig it, you need to die.

Next thing you know, you'll be telling me you don't like Lovecats.

Hearing about Metallica makes me want to listen to Silverchair...

It's unfair to compare a band like Metallica with a band like Dream Theater. Metallica's good music (1983-1991) was here and gone only a few years after Dream Theater released their first album (1989). I grew up on Metallica, and while many of you were either in diapers or not even born at the time, they were THE metal band of the time, along with Iron Maiden, Megadeath, and Slayer. Personally, I like to pretend as if Metallica never made any albums after 1991 and that they all died in a plane crash. Most of these metal bands that you folks are listening to today were inspired by the likes of the above bands. You shouldn't compare Led Zeppelin to Radiohead, and you shouldn't compare Metallica with Dream Theater. Music has OBVIOUSLY progressed since the 80's, so how about we quit comparing apples and oranges?

P.S. ANYONE with ANY SENSE can see that Metallica has fallen from grace and comparing their new music to more modern bands is retarded. Brittany Spears is better than the new (+1991) Metallica.

Load? Reload? Garage Inc? S&M? Those were great albums.
Think while it's still legal.
2006-02-28, 4:50 AM #37
Yeah, S&M is a masterpiece. I don't like Load, ReLoad and Garage Inc. that much, though.
Also, calling progressive metal (Dream Theater) repetitive is kinda...wrong. Are you sure it's not just LaBrie's voice that gets on your nerves?
And Yoshi: Dream Theater is commonly accepted as one of the best (if not the best) prog metal bands, but I think they are too much of a mixed bag to claim this title. In my opinion, Pain of Salvation could be called the best prog metal band (if you ignore their latest album).

at last, the truth is revealed!

S&M prooves that collaborations between different genres of music CAN create something altogether brilliant.

(80's rap & Rock, ie. RunDMC and Aerosmith, Rap & Classical ie.Fugees "Ready or not" remix of Enya's "Bodicea", Rock + Classical/Opera ie. Nightwish, and Rock + Classical, something beautiful and Unique, Apocalyptica <3 )
