Vocal Mixing Test
2006-03-04, 8:43 AM #1
Hey, was having a blank moment working on material for this album I'm doing *Metal album* - so I figured I would do a test run at mixing some vocals.

So in about 30 minutes I came up with this.

Click

Quickly wrote the guitar part (3 different acoustic parts - recorded with SM57 in room - hence the airy sound), used MIDI for the strings, then used a AKG C 3000B for the vocals.

I think it sounds pretty good. I've gotten several comments that it has an Ayreon (Arjen Anthony Lucassen) type vibe to it, which isn't a bad thing.

Thoughts on the mix? Was really trying to improve getting a layered/harmonized type sound with fullness in the vocals.

You should EQ the vocals a bit. The bass in your voice is harsh compared to the rest of the instruments. Also, make one of the vox tracks stand out more (turn down the back tracks) so it sounds less like a Gregorian chant. Unless that's what you're going for.

Haw, wow, I live near there too.

Schming, I recently realized my brother saw you and your band at the Battle of the Bands of Georgia Tech. He's friends with the guy who did the wonderful songs about Ninja Mufasa.

Oh, also, I'm stalking you both. I advise you keep your doors locked tight.
