okay, i've been a fan of deep purple since forever (i was 4 when i first heard them), and i figured i'd post some facts that make deep purple more awesome than any band of their era.

- they recorded machine head (their best cd) in a victorian hotel in montreux. in a T shaped hall.

- when they had to listen to their takes they had to take one hell of a trip (i'm not saying the whole thing, but it involves staircases, courtyards, walking out through windows, jumping down balconies) to the actual mixing studio which was in a van by the entrance.

- they recorded most of the hammond organ plugged in through a marshall guitar amp. that alone is awesome

- as you all know smoke on the water came from a famous fire at the montreux casino. where they were supposed to be recording.

let me tell you, it's easy to record nowadays, maybe that's why there's so much crap around.

post reasons why deep purple is awesome.

even though you don't need reasons really. they're just awesome.

i'm really hooked on space truckin' now. lazy used to be an old favorite, but space trucking and its rockin' marshall hammond takes the cake :D

Oh come on. They're not that amazing. But Smoke on the Water was the first song I learned on electric, so I guess I owe them some respect. :)

They used a real Hammond. For that alone, they kick ***.

The B3 is one of my favourite instruments.

Smoooooke on the waaaaaaater....FIRE IN THE SKY!

Actaully, on least known fact, is everything in that song took place. I guess the place there were supposed to saty got burned down, cause a guy shot a flare gun inside the building.
The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world.

I met Deep Purple. I watched their set while sitting sidestage, leaning on an amp while smoking a cigarette and talking to the bassist of Thin Lizzy. I chilled with Roger Glover, Don Airey, and STEVE MORSE after the show. During the opening lines to Smoke On The Water, Ian Gillian and Steve Morse pointed to us sidestage.

Boo ya grandma. ;P
