Ted Fest 2006: Battle of the Bands
2006-04-06, 8:46 PM #1
Tommorow our band Quickdraw is playing at 'Ted Fest 2006: Battle of the Bands'. Don't ask about the name 'Ted Fest', it's a long story and I'll post it later. Anyway, I'm so freaking excited. It was going to be 7 or so bands playing, but two dropped out, so now we get to play for 30 mins.

We are playing 6 of our own songs, and one cover song just because the last band to drop out did it a week ago, so we needed something to waste the extra time we have. There is a really popular grindcore band that plays at clubs and performance centers playing at this thing, but we are still confident we can win.

When we started the band last fall we were pretty damn bad, but after tonights practice, I realized how much better we've gotten. Our guitarists dad stopped by tonight and listened to us practice. After we played a few songs he asked us what bands the songs were from. We explained to him that we had played all of our own songs.

We've over-hyped 'Ted Fest' for the past month passing out hundreds of flyers for our band all over and just having a really good time. All the other bands are just going to get on stage, play, get off. We have other plans. Wireless Mic and wireless bass means we can run all over the place, which means a lot of fun for everyone. Also, a friend of mine is going to run out on stage during one of our songs dressed like Gene Simmons and he is going to smash a guitar-pinata filled with candy on stage. Why? Because he can.

Wish us luck, I'll post pictures, audio, video, and results tommorow when the event ends.

Setlist:

Nutshell
Take it Back
Free
Mansion of Kings
The T.V. Song
Sugar [System of a Down Cover]
Majority

Sweet. My band is doing battle of the bands next month, and I'm excited for that too. Do you get anything if you win?

Holy freaking crap. We won. We got to play a 2 song encore as well.

I remember when we first started Ted Fest, we expected to sell a few tickets. When we got to 75, I was thinking we MIGHT get to 100...We sold about 300 tickets total. I was amazed. Never in a million years did we think we would get 300, let alone 200 or 100.

There were some really awesome bands that played, but we ended up winning by about 25 votes. We did a sound check about an hour before the event, and it was horrible. After that I went from excited to kind of nervous, but still VERY VERY excited. Then at about 8:25pm we played our 30 mins, without a single mistake. It was an awesome show....Little did we know that at 11:00pm we'd be playing again.

The people loved us. Everything we were playing and saying would get a big cheer from the crowd. At one point in our act, one of my friends dressed up as Gene Simmons came out and smashed a guitar-looking-pinata on stage filled with 5 lbs of candy (Eddie Van Halen was there too :p). Then we tossed it all to the people in back and let the people standing at the stage grab it. They went wild. I think the reason we won, isn't only because we played good music, but also because we put on a good show. We really pumped up the crowd. At one point, I ran off stage and hid in the crowd to play bass. That was cool. I know of about 10 people who took videos and pictures, so hopefully I can get them up soon.

We are 100% having a Ted Fest 2007, it's already been approved due to the amazing success of this years (the first one ever). Rock on! Tonight was so awesome.

I'm still trying to figure out how to plug in my moms camcorder into my PC :p In the meantime, here's Gene Simmons and Eddie Van Halen.
