Undertow cover (a pain of salvation song)

this is a work in progress cover i'm working on in my very own bedroom studio. clean guitar is one single take with single coil pickups on my godin exit 22 <3

drums, piano and bass are synth.

distorted guitar left is my godin exit 22. right is my esp ltd h-1000. both on a fender princeton amp. the twin solo is my exit 22 guitar.

it's not bad. my roomate will record vocals on it soon. i'd like to know how it sounds on different sound systems. mostly about the loudness and different sound things.

Sounds very good!

The ending with the power chords seems to lack a little energy, mostly because the drums.. you should add some fills and more cymbals and general drum noise to make it more alive.

The balance and volume sounded fine on my speakers.

Does your mp3 start right at vocals or start of song?

Cause that clean strum does not start until lyics... I think the clean strum's too loud regardless, compared with the original - I think it stands out too much in your version. Just a bit softer and it sounds great.

Love that song, actually saw PoS open one of their shows with that song one time. Was a weird opener, but was awesome.

You should've done Rope Ends. <3

i found it a delightful listen.

Quality wasnt too bad.
Code:
if(getThingFlags(source) & 0x8){
  do her}
elseif(getThingFlags(source) & 0x4){
  do other babe}
else{
  do a dude}

i already know alot of pain of salvation songs (building a tribute band here with some prog freaks), but i couldn't be arsed tracking the drums to rope ends. i value my sanity.

and oh well. just gotta cut the clean strum at the beginning. i was mostly focused on getting the mix mostly decent. the clean strum needs to be a bit more brittle. all guitars are going to be rerecorded anyway. this is a good wip done with not alot of gear.

Sounds really fantastic for a bedroom studio, the drums sound like a bedroom recording, but the amps sound great.

For the drums, it sounds like you need more mics...

i redid the entire mix. the chord strum has this annoying hum from the monitor reacting with my single coils, but i'm going to re-record the whole tracks with this good mix.

i think it sounds much better now. tell me if anyone hears any odd pops and clicks anywhere (and if you're kind enough, the exact time)

Undertow, new mix
