Go to a store and try out the SG shape first. I used to dream about having one myself, then I went and actually played one, and I was really disapointed. The shape is akward and hard to get used to, and so is the neck. Plus they tend to be pretty heavy. You don't want to get it and find out it's not what you want. Watch out, the feel for the neck is going to be a lot different than your previous guitar.

Thanks for the advice! I'm also looking at these two.

Solid body guitars are way too common, and way boring.

the elitist are a great series. tried a les paul myself and the tone has alot of character. the woods are quality too since i could hear the harmonics clearly without even plugging it in. pinched or not.

Yes. Definately try out an SG before you buy one. The neck tends to be heavier than the body, and the strap button thing is behind the neck, so it can be uncomfortable at first.

Oh, and its a good idea to always the guitar up if you don't want it to slip and rip off your nipple.
nope.

C-1's are a bit more pricey than those, but they are extremely excellent guitars, beatuiful really. $699 at MF.

Don't listen to the SG detractors! I got a Gibson SG a few months back (at Guitarcenter actually, I was just playing it randomly and was like "This guitar feels great!") and I love it.

It's not heavy at all, at least compared to the Les Paul (same *****es telling you an SG is too heavy told you to buy a Les Paul, I noticed).

The strap button placement is fine, just use strap-locks or beer bottle caps and you won't have to worry about the strap coming off. The neck feels great to play, although if you're coming from a guitar with a thinner neck it would feel weird.

I need to get my SG set-up though. I messed around with the intonation and messed up one of the saddles to where the string is perfectly in tune, but the string buzzes on the fret board. It's all a matter of raising the entire bridge, but I really don't want to be bothered by it.
"Those ****ing amateurs... You left your dog, you idiots!"

i agree with this. the SG's can't be heavier than a les paul unless a) the SG has a kickass dense mahogany body which is great for tone or b) the les paul has a crappy mahogany which gives it a paperthin tone that SUCKS unless you can't play. the sg is thinner so it all depends on the wood quality.

and the big bad mahogany neck is always fun to play, good grip, solid notes too.

I was merely telling him to go try one before you buy it. I bought one a few months back too and love it, it can just take a little getting used to.

Oh, and the flame maple cap on a mahogany body ftw. :D
nope.

The whole point of the "SG detractors" posts were to say the different feel of the SG compared to most guitars. I never compared it to a Les Paul. He previously said he was looking into getting an LP, so I think he'd be aware of the weight. SG's obviously have a different feel and size compared to an LP, something that I felt he should be aware of before going out and ordering one.

To tell you the truth, I don't think he has really any idea on what guitar he wants. The only thing thats really been consistent in his links is mahagony bodies. He's been going to an LP to an SG to a Shecter, all which have extremely different feels and tones. Monoxide, I really think your best bet is to go to guitar center, look around, try them out, and decide which one you like best. That's the only way you can really decide which guitar is best for you. You can always order from MF later.
