Messing around with some songs... (recording)

I just got my basic home studio set up. I was going for mobility and not really anything professional. I want to be able to take it on the road to do live gigs and stuff.

The song:

Specs:

MacBook Pro 2.16 Ghz w/ 2GB RAM
Logic 7 Pro
MOTU Traveler Firewire
Compressor PRO-XL
MXL Condenser Mic (looking to get a real mic, this one is my bassist's)
Martin Auditorium Acoustic
My vox

I'm also using an old CASIO keyboard as a MIDI controller for the moment. Looking to get either a microKORG or an M-Audio controller.

Anyways, I recorded a little song tonight and wanted to see what you guys thought. I did everything in one take except for the rhythm guitar, for which I did a really sloppy edit in the second chorus. I also ****ed up some of the timing on the lyrics... ah well.

I'm still trying to figure out how to work the software and for using it for less than a day I think it turned out nicely.

edit: ick. I didn't realize how much distortion was on the track. I must have had the gain on the preamp set too high. It sounded perfect when I was mixing it and adding the backing tracks... grrr.r

The melody and vocals sound bigger than the music. I think it's a little understated.

Nice though, potential to be great :D

What kind of room are you in, and were you micing the guitar, yes?

If you were in a crappy room, that still sounds pretty nice and should kick *** on the road.

Song is kind of...

Well, it kind of reminds me of Sgt. Pepper for some reason. Not sure why. :psyduck:

I'm in my brother's old closet. He moved out a couple years ago, I moved back home for the summer from school and he has a double walk in closet, so I have the desk in the first one and I'm going to clean out the second and soundpad it and everything.

I doubled the vocals on the 2nd and 3rd choruses and panned that one to the left. I'm kind of pissed though because the take I did for that track turned out better than the main vocal track.

It's actually an Ours cover. It's Ours - Am I A Monster? Probably should have mentioned that in the first post but I really just wanted to make you guys think I was more badass than I am.

I was just testing out my rig. I'll probably post a few original tunes this weekend.

The actual song sounds awesome. The vocals I did would have been better but I did them at midnight and didn't want to wake everyone else in the house.
