So. i recently started working on a new project. it's nothing definite yet, but i want to write a good hour of music that connects to itself. kind of a concept cd. i didn't plan for it to turn out this way but after listening to this one i can just see it being the middle part of a nice story.

Experiment Eternity (NO-MIX)

this song isn't mixed. so it's very quiet. i need to fix the drums since they're quiet and don't take the room i want. everything is synth but the guitar. it sucks but i guess it's the only way to get things done the way i want. i direly need a real bass so that might change sometime as i can borrow someone's bass and do some kinda real bassline.

enjoy I guess. recorded with a boss-gt6 and ada mp1 for the clean parts. and only the ada mp1 for the distorted parts. used a Godin Exit22 for all distortion parts and my La Patrie etude for the acoustic part. (which needs some reworking)

all guitars were recorded with an Apex 126 drum mic. except for the acoustic which was done with a Apex 435 condenser. i need to write lyrics but this is just to mark the beginning of a nice project i'm starting on.

don't forget to turn it up LOUD. it's not mixed properly.

forgot to mention. this is progressive metal. will need vocals.

the piano sounds a wee bit off.

I like the ambient break before the introduction of the rock guitar.

yeh definately needs better compression and EQing. Make the guitars punch more, and gimme bass baby.
Code:
if(getThingFlags(source) & 0x8){
  do her}
elseif(getThingFlags(source) & 0x4){
  do other babe}
else{
  do a dude}

It sounds real purty Seb! I think I hear ns kit 7 though :o

guilty! i like how it sounds though.

might change the snare for the DFH2 snare but asides from that i'm pretty satisfied. i need to rework the whole drums so i can compress them and pan them in sonar and not have to work with a crappy stereo track.

but now that everything's recorded. it'll be a breeze, won't have to wait until the apartment is empty to work :D

Coolness! I'm not much of a music guy, so there isn't much I can say beyond that, sorry :(

Lemme know when you finalize it :D

I feel the need to publicize that this also has a neat guitar solo. been listening to too much steve morse lately and i think his influence crept up.

Yes, it is a nice solo.

I think the chord progression at the beginning is a little wierd. I'd prefer to hear a continuation of the Em line rather than going to (I think) B.

well. if you mean going from E minor to the spacey part. this is still E but mixing E phrygian and phrygian dominant (or A minor and A harmonic minor.. ) something like that. I'm curious to know why you saw it as B though. I guess the big tension between G and G# leaves the root kinda open.

gotta love music theory :psyduck:

and thanks. i'm still a bit of a hack. but i'm glad i got those chromatic notes to fit, it makes me so giddly inside :P

I meant the idea at the beginning - I couldn't really hear the roots that well (I thought I heard a B root in there). I just meant that it sounded like Em - EmMaj7. *shrug* I guess I just expect to hear the continuation of the bass line moving down (Em/D - C#m6), that's all.

But don't get me wrong, it does sound pretty nice.

I don't get you wrong. :D you've just got studies and i'm learning this by myself so you have an advantage and it's always nice to hear anything from someone who's been properly trained.

and yeah. i keep a constant ringing B note in there. (except for when it turns to the F bass root. bring out too much tension... locrian mode i guess. i don't know. so i resolve to C) but i always figured since it's in the higher register it doesn't really get all that rooted up, especially when the bass emphasises the E Eb B F movement.

this song just came to me in about an evening (written, not recorded of course..) and i'm just trying to analyze it so i can work out proper follow ups / prequels.

Solo sounds very Rafael Bittencourt and Kiko Loureiro-like (Angra guitarists). Very good
