Seriously.

Just finished a quick mix exercice in the analog studio at school, and that was definitely more fun and easier than on digital. I hate mixing on a DAW, turning EQ with a mouse, tweaking EQ with a mouse, automations, yada yada. I like to use the "force" - automation the old fashioned way. :v:

This is a song I was editting takes for, although I'm not finished comping, I had to do a quick analog mix at school as part of an exercice, and here it is. Mackie 32:8 console outs into an M-Box to record to the computer. Outboard gear used wasn't anything too fancy, all stuff you can get for under $500 on ebay, a dbx 1046 quad comp, dbx 363x gates, Lexicon LXP-15 reverb unit and a Roland SDE-3000 delay unit.

I transfered my tracks to a Tascam MX-2424 multitrack, and took 15 minutes to mix. The exercice was to simulate a live situation, to get a good balance and mix (patch in comps, gates, reverbs, etc) as quick as possible. The EQ's are a little rough, but it was done quick.

I didn't do any mastering, so it's kind of quiet.

Just expressing my love for the old-school method. I hate comping, I hate editting, and I hate mixing with the mouse.

Analog wins.

This is established fact.

I learned to mix on a board that controlled pro-tools.

I'm always afraid I'll get to using real equipment and be lost. :psyduck:

Yeah, if your biggest problem is that you don't like mouse/keyboard, you can get a board that has dials and sliders and things that will control protools or your program of choice.

The only issue is quality.

Except for sound quality. ;)

Also, the volume is perfect. If you make it loud and compress it, I'll track you down and stick a fork in your thigh.

Actually, control surfaces suck. I hate them. Virtual pots that do many functions. Yuck.

On an analog board, the hi-shelving EQ doesn't change. It doesn't magically become a pan or an aux send. The only control surface that I like, is a hybrid analog board and control surface made by SSL and is worth more than my life.

Hey, even if there is some audio quality loss with analog, it still sounds GOOD. :v:

And thanks, I didn't feel like limiting it at all, it sounds nice and open and breathes nicely, I think it would sound like **** if I squished it. I just normalized to -0.1.
