working on a new project

http://binarydemons.com/~strike/files/3lowpayments.mp3

the 'twangy funk guitar' sounds kind of wrong starting out, not sure the best way to fix that other than maybe start it off quieter and fade it in perhaps.

Liked the first one, synths on the second one sound very garish and fruityloopsy. Drums are good, but compress them!

heres 29.96 again, with some filters (eq, compression, reverb, etc)
should sound a little beefier, hopefully a little less FLish

I'm too lazy for you not to use the [mp3] tag.

ah good, chalk up another mark for those who haven't got a clue what and how common frequency modulation is.

damn though, i wish my old SNES could support 16-bit 44100 kHz stereo PCM data like yours did. those game cartridges must have been HUGE!

Wait, did you just insult a compliment?
Think while it's still legal.

i dont know, should i feel complimented that something i make in a modern-day software package sounds like it should be running on a 1mhz 8-bit DSP with 64 KB of (shared) memory?

Maybe you should stop using FL synths. :P

what do you suggest then? VST plugins? samples?

samples are usually not very flexible and overprocessing can make them sound like crap.

Er, he's referring to the music itself...

Also, it's too loud. But I like it. It sounds a little like Alex Brandon's music, like his work on Jazz Jackrabbit or Deus Ex. That's a very good thing.

soundfonts :v:

got any decent links to free soundfonts? my search didnt turn out too hot: everybody wants me to buy them and half the 'free' ones want me to install their downloader software (im not that gullible).

i found one that i could download for free and half the instruments was a recording saying "ya get what ya pay for!" and the other half sounded worse than something i could make with sytrus in six minutes. i guess the recording was right.

i dont care if it sounds like nintendo, im not shelling out cash that i dont have over a hobby :P

edit: the strings soundfont that comes with FL studio sounds pretty good, though i'm still not convinced theres any reason for soundfonts to sound better than a well designed sytrus config. i just dont know enough about FM and RM to make anything that sounds decent lol
