my, compared to 2005, 2006 was a poor musical year, but my top 3 will last for a damn long time, so it's quality over quantity.

1) Muse - Black Holes and Revelations
2) Snow Patrol - Eyes Open

Those two really stood out for me this year. And then there was also Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not and Wolfmother.

No kidding, most of the bands I mainly listen to released new albums in '05.

Nevermore, Arch Enemy, etc...

Havent heard the new Dream Theater or Blind Guardian cd. Same with Paul Gilbert's cd, though I did see some insane guitar playing from it on the Guitar World cd...................Cds are expensive when you have no income....

I actully did buy some 2006 material (kinda odd) - becoming a reader of Terrorizer magazine played its part.

but I can list some

1. Napalm Death - Smear Campagin (not really down on Grindcore - but this was awesome and the best of 2006, had everything with sixteen tracks of old skool crash bang wallop).

2. Celtic Frost - Monotheist (never listened to any black metal - but it was awesome and some of the guitar work was unique. Nice to see that one of the forbearers of metal have returned!)

3. Voivod - Katorz (sad to hear about Piggy D'amour who passed away - but in his final weeks of his life, he carried out all the guitar work for this album quite unique and has that rocker-edge to it).

4. Khoma - The Second Wave (strange album but the guitar work shows up and some considered a side project of members from Cult Of Luna, impressive and a little weird).

5. Amon Amarth - With Oden On Our Side (intresting Viking Death Metal which was okay but I found it too predictable and got no vibes from the guitar work).

6. Dragonforce - Inhuman Rampage (found this album rather dull and every song on the album had the same pace and riff. Too predictible unlike other bands).

On the whole I bought some great music this year and some bad too
