Favorite song of all time?
2007-04-26, 10:48 PM #1
Mine is American Pie.

Also, favorite genre of music?
Funk, rock, rap all do it for me.

Edit: I guess this could go in Music Discussion, but I was hoping for a much more broad discussion.

Right now - Kenny Chesney - On The Coast Of Somewhere Beautiful

Because it reminds me of where I could be ;)

Favorite genre - Country.

I could never name a favorite song, but a song that has always stuck with me, lyrics-wise, is Simple Man, by Lynyrd Skynyrd...actually I kind of like the cover by Shinedown better music-wise. I try to live like that.

Mmm, Fluttering between

Over the Hills and Far Away - Led Zeppelin
and
Blue Sky - The Allman Brothers Band

but right now, I gotta say the song that's doing the most for me is

The Captain - Guster

and if you need any kind of encouragement I'd suggest you give it a listen.

Favorite Genre? Dunno, I'd say maybe Classic Rock, but anything that's really good, I'll appreciate, regardless of genre.

Song? I can never answer this question properly, but I guess I'll go with Jean-Michel Jarre - Ethnicolor as usual.

Favorite enre? Definately electronic. NO, not techno or trance or synthcocking or whatever silly subgenre names there are.

I guess I could mean old-school electronic music from 1970s and 1980s such as Kraftwerk, Jarre and Vangelis but neat stuff have been released after that (Ladytron, Frank Klepacki, Alexander Brandon, etc.) and they're not really techno or whatever so I'll have to go with electronic in general and expect someone to read it as "techno lawl :downswords: ".

Also that might just be my "Favorite" genre, but I like anything that for some/any reason sounds good/listenable to my ears.
Star Wars: TODOA | DXN - Deus Ex: Nihilum

  • Head East - Never Been Any Reason
  • Pink Floyd - Welcome To The Machine

Those both tie for #1 on my list.

My favorite genre would have to be Ambient Electronica (e.g. Carbon Based Lifeforms).

Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms. Fantastically emotional song, and Mark Knopfler's guitar work is absolutely incredible, especially live. I think I've got more copies of this song than any other (the studio version along with a couple of live copies).

My favourite genre would probably be rock, I suppose. I listen to quite a wide variety of music, but I guess the majority of my music collection is some kind of rock.

The Livingbrooks - The Dunes (Every song on this whole album is my favorite)

I listen to a lot of stuff; punk rock, indiestuff, ska, rap, funk, electronicstuff. Basically, if it isn't pop (and by pop I mean bad and popular) I am willing to listen to it.

Now, what is the best song in the world?
Obviously It's Video Killed The Radio Star by The Buggles.

Based purely on the number of times I've purposefuly listened to a song therefore making it my favourite: Coldplay - Clocks. I have double-clicked on that MP3 more times than I'd care to count.

Favourite genre is Britpop and whatever they're calling what Britpop has evolved into these days (Coldplay, Snow Patrol, Muse, Oasis etc). You Brits sure know how to make good music.

You've got that right.

Also Killing In The Name Of - Rage Against The Machine is tied for #1.

My favourite genres would be rock and classic rock, and some modern rock and metal.

Lennon and McCartney-Let it Be

It changes, but I always come back to it. It is certainly one of the best songs ever written, and one of my favorites, probably...

It really depends on what genre I'm listening to. At the moment I'd have to say it's Worlock by Skinny Puppy. Despite being one of their stronger songs, it samples The Beatles and Charles Manson. What more could you really ask for?
2007-05-21, 2:10 PM #22
Right now, I love "I'll Believe in Anything" by Wolf Parade. Also "Run" by Ben Kweller.

Seeing as we've been necromiced, what the hell does the genre "rock" mean?

For me, I'd say it's a tossup between Meat Loaf's "Alive" and Cat Steven's "If You Want To Sing Out"

My taste ranges from Metal/Death Metal/Progressive/Hardcore, somewhere in there, and I like quite a bit of music, so it's very hard to pin down a favorite song, currently it would be pretty much any Opeth song, specifically anything from Damnation or Ghost Reveries.

However, the new Porcupine Tree album is PHENOMENAL

And I'm really into Between The Buried And Me and As Blood Runs Black.

It's impossible to pick my favorite song, but definately one of my favorite albums is American Beauty by the Grateful Dead.

As for favorite genre...I listen to everything, but I listen to a lot of indie and pop rock stuff.
"Ford, you're turning into a penguin. Stop it."

favorite song of all time is really hard to pin down. I like different songs for different occaisions, and often I'll listen to a song for months before it suddenly dawns on me that I really like it. Regardless, here's a list of some of my favorites and some honorable mentions.

Pink Floyd - The Wall (I'm counting the whole album here, cause it's all pretty much just one long song. But more specifically, Mother, Empty Spaces, Another Brick in the Wall (all three parts), Hey You, Nobody Home, and Comfortably Numb)

Blue October - Hate Me (the rest of this CD (Foiled) is awesome also. Reminds me of Pink Floyd actually.)

DollyBraid - Broken Like an Angel (Not a very well known song/band, but terribly beautiful. Kind of a mix between Crossfade and Alter Bridge. You can find them on iTunes Music Store. Check out San Pedro also.)

Alter Bridge - Shed My Skin (speaking of them. Absolutely beautiful song. Alter Bridge is amazing at building from a gentle verse to a rocking chorus and back again without messing the integrity of the song. Also check out Broken Wings and In Loving Memory.)

The Eagles - Tequila Sunrise (very pretty song. Most stuff by the Eagles is awesome, but I'm particularily fond of this one. Also like Desperado and Hotel California.)

John Rzeznik - I'm Still Here (made for the Disney movie Treasure Planet by the lead singer of the Goo Goo Dolls. Rzeznik has a remarkable voice, and there's an awesome message in this song. I can relate.)

The Goo Goo Dolls - Two Days in February (speaking of. This song is awesome. First heard it as a live recording and it's absolutely amazing. Cried over it.)

Pete Yorn - Lose You (got to be one of the saddest songs ever written. Very mellow. Cried over this one first time I heard it too.)

Third Eye Blind - Jumper (Amazing because of the drum part in the middle, which is done very tastefully. Rest of the song's good too.)

Tool - Ænema (epic. Contains one of the best descriptions of our society ever. "One great big festering neon distraction")

honorable mention:

Disturbed - 10,000 Fists (various others from Disturbed also)

Gary Jules - Mad World

Don Henley - The Boys of Summer (also like The Ataris' remake. They did a great job with it.)

Journey - Don't Stop Believing

Deep Purple - Smoke on the Water

Everlast - What It's Like

Good Charlotte - Predictable (Some others by Good Charlotte too.)

Korn - Freak on a Leash (the version featuring Amy Lee. I know lots of people can't stand it, but I think it's amazing. (and Amy Lee's a babe.))

The Verve Pipe - Medicate Myself (Pretty much everything on this cd's great. I like Colorful also.)

Hillary Duff - Fly (I may get crap for this one, but this song is awesome. The rest of her stuff I don't really like too much)

I could keep going, but I'll leave it at this. I'm almost certainly missing several and will kick myself later.

[Oh, and a favorite genre is almost impossible to pick. Lots of Rock (classic and contemporary), sometimes into Rap/Dance too (all sub-genres, from Jay-Z to Eminem to Everlast depending on my mood), sometimes classical (particularily solo guitar or piano stuff), various pop (generally stuff that leans closer to rock though), punk (mostly the more emo-punk bands like All American Rejects, Lit, Eve 6, etc).]
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Lassev: I guess there was something captivating in savagery, because I liked it.

Oh, and whoever said Hells Bells by AC/DC I would add that to my honorable mention also. I absolutely love the beginning. The rest of the song's not that great in my opinion though, so it doesn't make my list.

The song is alright, I don't see why you think it's so awesome. They play it at my work. :(
