some new work in progress

hey guys. I've been busy again. wrote another song this weekend, and this third one really sparked my inspiration again so there's more coming. I haven't finished making the drums and bass just yet, but the guitars are done and that's what i have to show until the whole thing is done. probably have to redo some drum stuff too. it's just a midi drum right now, i haven't worked out the soundfonts or velocities yet, just wrote the score and then recorded my guitars. (just two tracks. maybe i'll add a layer or two)

it's still missing alot of mixing, and i'll probably fix the piano intro to be less frenzied. my first experiment with direct recording (just a stompbox, no preamp sim or any other processing, through a behringer GI100 guitar speaker simulator) and it seems to have done the trick. at least it works for an early demo.

this brings the total of the songs to this project to three

Hybrid Technology is a working title. i'm aiming for a somewhat futurist concept, maybe like vintersorg or bal sagoth... that's still in progress however.

and to give some people context, here are the older ones:

Experiment Eternity. first song that sparked this project. written and recorded 2 years ago. this one is smoother than the other two but it doesn't sound so out of place.

still don't have a title for this one yet. really heavy. just how i like it, written and recorded last year

if you're curious check out the older ones, but it's the new song i'm showcasing ;)

thanks!

Excellent.. Very Nice.. Very Progressive! :)
What are your influences? Too many to name?
What did you use for your midi drums?.. sound way better than the once I use in the music I write lol

Well, i'd say with the current rundown of songs, there's a good deal of nevermore, pain of salvation, tvangeste, iced earth and probably some guthrie govan or paul gilbert thrown somewhere.

the drums in the first two tracks are with drumkit from hell and fruity loops and alot of headaches. in the last it's just lazy GM drums i'll remake someday.

ah... i never spent time to learn how to do them in fruity loops
i usually just create the drum riffs in Guitar Pro.. export it and convert it to a .wav with winamp.. doesnt sound horrible.. but im thinking yours sound a lot better

i can definitely see the Nevermore influence in those songs.. such an awesome band

the midi drums kinda work for kick snare and toms. for the cymbals however they absolutely suck. that's on the first however. on the latter two it's fruity loops.

i think the piano in the second one sounds freaking sweet

Nice! The GI100 is pretty surprising, isn't it? I've never been quite happy with the distortion tones through it, but I've gotten some nice cleans and drives from my Nomad into the GI100. Pretty nice tone, especially for a demo!

the process for each is different, but i'll make an even tone when it's done. i'm taking my sweet time.

on the newest one, there's no EQ at all, just a little notch in the 500-ish in the master guitar submix to give them more punch and some panning. everything's clear and does the job of hearing the song itself. the concept is nicely figured out too so far, there's already a 4th song written which i'll record tommorow.

so i've finished recording another one, and after some experiments with soundfonts (managed to make my own soundfont drumkit. there's no velocity but this was done overnight so i'm still gonna tweak it a hell of alot)

the concept is getting there. i'd like to know if there's alot of boomy bass on your end, i'm mixing with headphones and my sound system isn't exactly state of the art.

the drum is a bit less annoying, but it'll change.

and don't be fooled if you think the first heavy riff of this song is odd. you get used to it. 13/16 + 6/8 tends to do that :P

and i've added better drums on hybrid technology has well. and some minor fiddling through the intro. i'm now entering composition again for a fifth song, but i think this one will more time. 2 songs in 2 weeks was fun, but it won't be as easy all the time i hope :P

thanks in advance!

edit: remixed both of the remixes. the guitars were way too loud. surprising how a mp3 player with earbuds is a good reference for everyday listening...

The melody in that 4th song is freaking amazing!
The Percussion Score is awesome too.
Nice Job! :)
