Original vs. Remastered Albums

I just bought The Who's "Quadrophenia" remastered after listening to it for years on the original mixes and goddammity **** **** it sounds so ****ing rad.

I've found for Who albums the remasters always sound so much better than the original mixes.

Has anyone got any good recommendations for remastered copies of anything?

Well, a lot of Japanese regular editions are audiophilically remastered by themselves (especially when it comes to vinyls) which is naturally noticeable in the price tag.

Oh and then there's MFSL.

So Japanese printed vinyls of like say The Beatles Revolver would always be the remastered mixes and not the original American/UK print mixes?

Most of the early Sepultura albums that I own are remastered versions. I love the live drum recordings from 'Beneath The Remains' which are better than the studio versions, the same for 'Arise' with the inclusion of a cover version of Motorhead's 'Orgasmatron'.

I personally don't mind the difference really as remastered albums tend to have extra content. As long as the music stays the same, i'm fine with it.

Well, they would be their own mixes. I don't know about somewhat older records like The Beatles, though.

I hear The Beatles discography is being release on iTunes completely re-mastered. If that is true, I am going to cum.
Think while it's still legal.

Wouldn't quadrophenia always have sounded better remastered since it was originally meant to be quadrophonic sound?
nope.

when it comes to remastered releases it depends on how the remastering was done

most of the time these days the remaster only serves to "make it louder" which is not the way to go

anyone who has compared the CD and GH3 versions of Metallica's latest knows what "make it louder" can do... the CD is garbage...
