Max Rebo skin

OK, I've sort of joined Scouttrooper's "Oxygen" mod team (afer I reskinned his Ponda Baba model), and the first model he tossed my way was ol' Max Rebo.

It's still a WIP.

I still have no luck with md3view on my machines, so I managed to use Milkshape to assist in the textures. Seemed to work OK.

When the model is put in-game / converted to GLM, then I'll have
another tweak of the textures to make sure the seams are blended nicely (especially around the elbow area), and I'll add in some more wrinkles etc.

Hope you like what I've done so far, and as always feel free to make me some suggestions on how to improve it.

This isn't by way of an insult, merely criticism. In my humble opinion, the doesn't look nearly as good as some of the other things you've posted. The skin is repetitive and fake looking (the texture on the skin, I mean) and the diaper look more like stone than cloth. It's not the greatest model of him I've ever seen (better than mine, of course), but I won't harp on that given that you had nothing to do with the model.

I suppose the main thing with the texture on the skin is how highly it contrasts with the skin tone. Get some shading going and mess around with it a bit more.

Fair comments. It IS a WIP, and you have to admit the actual Max Rebo isn't the most 'realistic' looking of creatures. Being one solid colour all over (which also makes skinning rather difficult).

What I have noticed is that skins can have a lot of detail & be bright in modview, but once they're in-game they get duller and more washed out.

As it's easier to dull and lower contrast to fix something than make things brighter and better defined to fix them, I perhaps have overcompensated at this stage, ready to tweak when I get a .GLM to work on so I can see my work in-game.

What you say is correct though. Think of this as a base texture to build from once I get a .GLM version of the model.

Yeah, it doesn't take much work to tweak the contrast. In any case, keep up the good work.
