Even though there aren't any stormies here....yet...

I redid the (decorative) hangar that you pass by, primarily because the old one was essentially a box. Gonk no like obvious boxes. The lighting is still unfinished (BRIGHT! AHHH!), and I need to add some more random crap into it to make it feel more...alive...

Edit: Forgot to note: if anyone feels so inclined, I'm looking for a higher-quality skybox along the same color scheme (i.e., bright blue sky, sun in the air, brownish terrain).. if any of you want to throw together some terragen stuff at a higher quality and make it into a skybox (I have the appropriate shader knowledge to do that, you just need to cut up the thing appropriately and use the standard Q3 skybox naming convention), I'd be much obliged.

SP!

The underwater thingy proved to be too much a pain in the butt to work with. Many technical problems.

Is this a continuation of your earlier project? The one you started right after the underwater level?

It's sharp as a friggin rock though. Really nice.

Very, very sexy. I don't know exactly what type of random crap you had in mind, but some pipes and panels strewn about the hangar floor would look nice. Maybe you should add some floor-level lighting in the corridor?

Very nice!

Make embedded point lights in that main hanger, the one that looks repetative. Just do a little CSG subtraction action, put some square lights down in there and a fairly bright point light. May require radiosity to really look good.

Ok to answer some questions:

Yes, it's a continuation of the level that I started after the underwater level. It's actually the same story, just modified to remove the water base.

Sine: Yeah pipes, panels, crates, random stuff like that should look fine. I was thinking the same thing about lights in the corridor, as it seems a bit bright.

Emon: First, thanks for offering to make the skybox. Secondly, I'm not quite sure if I understand what you meant in your first post. Do you mean to embed the lights flanking the transport into the floor, or what?

I'll have an updated shot (with better lighting and random crap (tm)) in a bit.

It's four AM, do you know where your power droid is?

Where else...

Above two = hangar with updated lighting and such...

This one is the area opposite the other bighugeomg window seen in this pic, although it's still a bit dark in the small cave area it looks into...

And the general noclip overlay shot to give you all an idea of what's done so far.

Edit: also of note: the final shot's r_speeds tris count is somewhere in the 23k range.. which, considering the majority of the level is in view, is quite good... I was surprised myself.

Dude...Gonk... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/eek.gif]

You simply must port this to Jedi Academy when it releases. It seems like it will have much better features than Jedi Outcast.

Yeah evil_lair's textures, if you want specifics I believe it's texture packs evil5 and evil6 you want. Primarily evil6.

Thanks for the comments. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

And yes, even if this had a shot at being released for JO (not likely), I'd still port it to JA just because JA will (hopefully) have better support for SP editing.

If you guys want to see more shots you can dig through my EC page... there's a few in there that I've actually posted but are a few weeks if not months old. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Coolbeans! Now I have some decent textures for my underground mine area in my SP level [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

(It's called Skarr Crystal, if anyone remembers, I made a post about it a LONG time ago. But enough hijacking, I got more drooling to do. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif])

JA MP has support for ICARUS II scripting, probably for their Siege mode. If we can get the AI ported from SP, and assuming the rendering engine doesn't suck as much as JO MP'
s does (unlikely with all the time they've had), we can do full SP mods and levels in MP, and will have limitless possibilities.

now that I look at it this is much more evil5 than evil6, although there is some evil6 in there...

But yeah, that's where I got it from.

You have to use the link from evil5 to download 6, just change the number 5 to 6 in the URL. (It might be the other way around, if it was 6 that was working, and not 5.)

ok, I SUCK at editing, but heres my 2 cents...more like .0002, but:

Change the texture for the light at the top of those inward slant thingies in the wall, the gray-white grate squares.

Otherwise...keep workin and you might be better than me. One day...after I've become better than you. O_o

That wall with the detailed "nook" lights looks hot. May have to steal the idea sometime. But at the bottom part of the wall where there's a texture detail change, could that come out? In 3d modeling you learn to use as least amount of texture detail as possible. Maybe it would work for that.

There is no reason why any of this shouldn't get SOTD. What is wrong with people?

I love the details, the plants and overhanging whatever those things are outside are an excellent touch. You have gone in great directions in level design that other people, including professional level designers, have avoided for some inexplicable reason and then some more.

As a fellow mapper, let me just say why That is, Hard. Its not intentional. Gonk just has a gift for conceptualization that many of us lack. A good mapper can think of a level. A great one can think down to the finest detail of the smallest part of a corner of a room pertaining to how he wants it to look. Gonk is one of those great mappers.
