Bryce 5 Pictures...

Just wanted to show off some of my Bryce stuff.

This one is about my 10th picture, one of the better.

http://www.deviantart.com/view/2173920

What exactly do you call a cube that has another cube on each of it's 6 faces? 0_o A Hyper-Cube perhaps? Cube Squared?

A background I made in photoshop but then tried to recreate in Bryce. It did not turn out to my liking. The texture looked cool to me at the time but I dislike it now I think. That plus the camera pos. lied to me so it's way off center.

Comments? Suggestions?

[edit] DeviantArt won't let you link pictures like I thought they would.... On another note, but along the same lines, why does the EC at Massassi say 200kb at the upload screen, but when I upload something say, 150kb, it tells me it needs to be under 100kb? [/edit]

Probably in passing, never really pay attention to names.

Most of my time is spent browsing the Desktops section.

They are both rather plain. Bryce is more for terrains, not something simple like that. A simple sky, water, and some fog, plus a few glass cubes doesn't really require much work. (Pretty much the equivelent of a JK box concy level.)

Note it does say "10th picture". I haven't really started making stuff with it yet. I've seen some of what it can do, yes, but most of this is just fooling around and turning out something that looks cool.

That being said, I've tried making terrain. To be honest, I'm not that good at it right now. Most of it is pretty bad. The last one I made that even looked remotely promising only was so in the thumbnail preview. Once I rendered it, it wasn't good at all.

Seeing as how I'm doing this on an 800Mhz iMac (Don't dis it, this machine has done A LOT of good grpahics work for me when the PC wouldn't. I make a habit of using it.) it doesn't have quite the Uhmpf needed to do really spectacular things. To give you an example, imagine a thin torus (a thin doughnut for those that don't know). Take that torus, duplicate it 5 times, and rotate it around the center. Now take that enitre shape, and duplicate it twice. Put the three in a line end to end. Give it a glass like texture, put water underneath, and put a ligh on either end to make it look cool.... I did that, pressed render. Wanna know what happened? Nothing, absolutely NOTHING for 5 minutes. Then I got the ETA. Five days, 6 hours, 25 minutes.

I had this poor computer crawling on its belly in the steaming sun through gravel whimpering.

I checked the system resource meter, which took five minutes to reach. Bryce was hogging upwards of 90% of the processor power. It was a wonder to me at least that the OS was still running. I killed Bryce, and the computer, by pressing the power button. This was of course after I'd tried to be nice and tel Bryce to quit normally.

I haven't been brave enough to open that file since to see what I can do to make it work.

To make that story short and to give it a purpose... This iMac can do, or will try to, do any render I can throw at it. But, the more complex, the slower it is. I think I've discovered that volume objects are particually volitile to render times. So yea...

I made a few more things today, one of which in my opinion is the most realisic so far. I'll upload later and share. It's workin on 11 00 here.

Oh yea, back to the terrain quickly. If anyone has a suggestion as to how I should approach it... please, I'm open to your thoughts.

unfortunatly, it takes work to make bryce look good. I've seen some awesome stuff in bryce (you wouldn't know it was bryce unless I told you), but this is just standard "I JUST GOT IT OFF KAZAA OMGOMGOMG" stuff. No offense, just takes alot of practice.

Unless you want a final render, always use fast preview and turn anti-aliasing off. It'll decrease render times so much it ain't funny. And the windows version is exactly the same as the mac version, so using it on either one doesn't matter.
