...if not, don't worry too much about it. But this is part of the same project. The start of the first full level. It's the entry way to a governor's mansion. It's no where near finished (the level or the entryway) and the lighting and some of the texturing is probably temporary.

Also, as you may tell from the pics, I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO CORRECTLY TEXTURE PATCHES. Can anyone help me out? Direct me to a tutorial? I know the patch areas look like crap right now, don't worry...I'm hoping to change that...I'll also lower the railings on the upper levels slightly (they're a bit too high as-is)

Now enjoy the pics (..and the return of the statues everyone loved oh-so-much...before you start whining, unless you're willing to make better ones for me, they're staying. End of discussion.)

And no, that's not the player-model for the project, nor the enemies you'll be fighting there...those are just for testing purposes.

And just to avoid half the replies being about the player-model, which I had nothing to do with the creation of, I got it at jk2files.com, it's the MGS Ninja.

That sounds insulting, Cazor.

Well it wasn't meant to be.

Oh yes, and patches. select the patch then hit shift+s. thats the patch texture thing, just like the brush one, but its for patches. then you can do natural or CAP and it makes the texture looks nice and not streched out like patches normally give off.

I know about that, but is there anyway to stitch between patches and brushes so they match up?

Cap (I think) makes the texture look like it would if you just slapped it on a brush - .25 vertical and horizontal stretch, no shift. Shift+S opens the patch texturing menu, and it has pretty much the same options - stretch, shift, etc, with one major difference. The value you enter is how much you'll be stretching or shifting by when you hit the button, rather than how much the texture has already been stretched or shifted. The values seem to be on a different scale than in regular brush texturing menu, so you'll just have to mess around. I know an increase of .5 on a 'capped' patch texture is equivalent to stretching a brush texture at .25 x .25 to .5 x .5

... I hope that made some sort of sense.. you know where to find me if it didn't.

When I saw the first shot I thought it was jk...

Looks good. Once you get some lighting happening it should look sweet.

Had that been JK, I would have said, "Wow, that's the best looking large open space I've seen ever!"

Instead, I will say, "Looks nice... Can't way to see it lighted/etc."

I think he means the layout.

The reason I thought it was JK was that most of the screenshots I see from outcast levels here rely heavily on archi and lighting.(Which gets annoying) And they seem to forget to texture it properly thinking the rest will make up for it. However your level has texturing... which is very good. But no lighting as such. Therefore the first shot appeared to be out of the ordinary. Which I saw as an incredible jk level.

You should be motivated to show hellcat that it can look so much better than JK, and to show Cazor that it looks so much better than his level.

I think that looks alot better. If you compare the first and second to last shot, the first one looks a bit drab and dull.. But the second, with the spot light and the lights under the other thing, looks better.

Looks a lot better, but you need to get rid of the repeating texture look. The marble texture looks good, but there are too many instances of it. I'd suggest creating darker/lighter tones of the marble texture, and add some little accents with the new texture variations to break up the "I'm in a box" feeling.

Has a lot of potential. First of all I'd like to say you did an outstanding job with the architecture and texturing. But the lighting.. well, it needs more than a few point lights carelessly strewn around in a way-too-obviously-ambient-lighting thingie. Get rid of the ambient lighting, or tone it way down, and focus on light sources.

But, a great start so far.

...so you brought back my thread after 2 days of inactivity to insult my work. Thanks.

...now, don't all of you take this personal, because it's really just a few of you, but you people make me WISH there was a better place to showcase screenshots. The mentality of massassi is horrible. And I'm not just talking here, I've seen it in a lot of threads. It's like you're all engaged in a little contest to see who can make the best snide remark or left-handed compliment with no regard to the people it affects.

Freelancer, a) thank you for constructive criticism b) don't worry, the lighting is entirely temporary.
