Life of Grismath pt. 1 Open Beta

It's a hefty download, sure, but there's quite a bit. These are the first two levels of the action/adventure epic that is basically a compillation of all my past unfinished work. Conceptually, the series spans a few days in the life of yuor truly, Grismath. I, of course, partake in shady deals with the ugnaught mafia, counter anti-Soviet Underground conspiracies, and play intergalactic gumshoe every day, apparently.

Now as an Open Beta, this isn't all fun and games. Along with your comments, I'd like any detections of flagrant errors that you encounter. If it's something that's a matter of taste, don't bother posting it, I've spent way too much time and effort on this baby to tweak it to suit your twisted aesthetic tastes. As you'll see, mine are twisted enough on their own, thank you very much.

If you *must* see a screenshot before or whilst you download this heavyweight, check out http://www.sestus.net/lookie.JPG to while away your time and start up those salival glands.

The Open Beta download is at http://www.sestus.net/log1.zip and weighs in at a whopping 66.4 mb. And these are only the first two levels. (Do realise, however, that in desperation and lack of time, I abandoned all attempts at filesize shaving, so the final version WILL be smaller).

Meanwhile, I shall be in Scotland, but when I return, I'll take a look-see here and see what I can do to tie up and lose ends. And don't forget to tell me what you think!

Click and download...ah, cable...5 minutes...Hehe

Anyway, I couldn't get out of the first bedroom area. I was accosted by some uganauts wearing suits and then I couldn't figure it out. The camera system is also kind of annoying.

Hey, I'm just glad it isn't 56k. I remember having 56k, a download like this would have taken an hour and a half to two hours.

Well, a few minutes in and the camera angles are annoying.

Oh yeah, and after encountering the Ugnaughts and going back to my room. I tryed to activate my bed (from the looking towards the hallway door angle), it took me to the closet-door angle and frooze.

Try 4 hours. X_X

I think I'll download this over several days, a little bit at a time... I currently have 20% done.

I finally got around to updating my sig... *grumble*...

... That certantly was short...

It did have a kind of Grim Fandango feel, and I don't just mean the camera style. Especially when you went into the bathroom to ice the guy. O_o

The alien in the room tho in the other dimention or whatever that was supposed to be lol... it you wake him up, go outside, and come back in, you still see the "Zzzz" text, even tho he's awake.

That was WAY too short for a 66mb download, I expected it to be uber-long. Where did all that space go!?!?

It was pretty fun overall tho.

Yeah, it was short, and it was 124 mb's but 60 some zipped. I didn't really like the camera angles.

Try not icing him, ZZTer, see what happens then... ;]
Also, the Gamorrean cutscene was a little flawed, especially since his head gets stuck in the ceiling when he wakes up. ;p I can and will fix that before I release this.

Friend14, if soemthing like that happens and you end up getting a weird camera angle where the player is NOT, try hitting F1 and going into 3rd person mode.

powertickle, you can crouch and activate the bed. It *should* blow up and fall trhough the floor, and all you have to do is follow it.

As for the filesize, I do agree that it's too large for too little gameplay, (it seems longer to me because I've seen every cutscene 80 billion times,) but technically, strapped for time as I was before I left for Scotland (where I currently am), I basically just took out the JKL and JED files for the other levels, so I repeat that with 'filesize shaving' (that is, once I remove all the unnecessary textures, that are used in other levels,) this download should be relatively small. Next time you download this, however, it should hopefully have another two JKLs attached. ;]

Additionally, the final verison of this level should feature one additional quest/area. *nods in Cave_Demon's direction*

And as for the rest of ye, I don't care how long it took you to download the file, I want to know what you thought once you downloaded it!

If you want my opinion..... I thought it was great! Camera angles should be fixed up a little though because it made some confusion. Other than that, it was great and I'm hoping to see the final part.

I've been getting quite a few complaints about the camera angles, but when designing them, I tried to make them original as possible as a contrast from the standard issue 45 degree angle ceiling corner shot. I have a few more tricks up my sleeve for them, but what would you suggest, then, to make the camera angles better? I suppose that I should add more, and some of the transitions weren't always airtight, where the player would walk offscreen, but what more?

I think when you make them "airtight" as you said, it'll be good. I'll give you full beta reports when you returned and I see you on #tacc.
