PLEASE GIVE ME COMMENTS!!! I DON'T GET TIPS AT WORK!!!

Since I am working nights now, I'll try to answer some basic questions now 'cause I don't know when I'll be back to Massassi this week.

Yes, there is more to this map. No, I won't show it. I hate showing parts of a map that aren't quite ready.

Yes, I have been working on my other projects. No, they aren't ready yet.

I did end up fixing the q3map2 glitch I had, so Restless Endeavor will be released soon.

That's all I can think of now. Thanks for viewing my thread! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I don't like the color scheme for this one. Make it more gothic or "grand". And add fog!

Color scheme is great. A matching blue haze would be cool. Very thin, not enough to impair vision.

What do you mean, volumetric or ambient?

Perhaps you could put the haze just on the ground, but I'm not sure how that would work if you have mutliple floors.

Uh, all fog in Q3 is volumetric.

Ya know, blue is a cool color until you use it about 3000 times [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]. Maybe you should try using red or...dare I try and say it...black light...?...no?...just trying it on! but try something really freaky. Just to add a spook factor.

I dont know if this is the same level I was complaining about, it's been a while....but I still hate the textures. Looks good otherwise, nice job.

I do not understand why so many people as of late have taken their JO levels with awesome archi and put (of course this is my opinion here folks!) ugly textures on it that are bland, colorless, and boring. I like the architecture alot but I hate the textures. I understand it's some kinda new fad or something to just throw on some boring concrete texture and focus on lighting and archi but I really don't like the idea at all. Hopefully in this case you plan to put on better textures. But that's your own business. It seems that many of the posters before me like the texture scheme alot... Which is why I said it's some kinda new fad. Seems like alot of people like it. I'm just giving input... I really don't like the texture scheme. But the lighting and archi are great. Keep up the good work there.

it's bland, but the fact that it's bland makes it realistic. Your walls aren't often awesomely textured, and neither are the outsides of buildings. It looks like a sterile concrete building, and should probably be textured as such. I dig it. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

The problem is that the textures themselves have very little detail. They look like solid colors.

The only thing I can make out in most of those textures is literally the only thing, making the 'texture' nothing more than a repeating eyesore. Textures are horrid. Great archi, and nice lighting for the most part.

Erm... lotsa people to respond to... here goes:

Ambient fog is one that encompasses the entire map. You dump the fog params in the worldspawn instead of using a shader. Anywho, if I were to use fog, it would be sparingly and in low-lying areas.

The doorways may go... they don't really fit my theme anymore. Although, there isn't an architextural theme to begin with. Each section is different; the only common trait is the lip on the top walls.

This is only the second map I've tinkered with that has the same texture pack, so I don't think that I'm going overboard with them. I normally do two maps with one texture set(s) because I normally have many ideas that cannot be done in one map alone.

I am considering using new textures because the lighting really bleaches them out. But as of now, I have yet to find a better set of textures and my photoshop skills aren't at a level which I am confident enough yet in using them. I'm not letting that get in my way for now 'cause I've gotten a lot of good architectural ideas recently, and the map has tripled it's size since I last worked on it. This map is gonna be pretty huge... at least 3, maybe 4+ tiers.

I dusted off two more rooms overnight, and I'm still running strong in the idea department. Once the ideas start to fizzle, I'm putting the project on the back burner to concentrate on finishing Restless Endeavor.

Please, keep the suggestions coming!

I'll go against the croud and say I like those textures and the coloring. Textures need not always be complicated and filled with intricate patterns. Simplicity can produce great works of art. I really like the blue glow on the ceiling.

Heh. You still use a shader when you add fog to worldspawn. It's still very much volumetric.

Decent architecture, bad choice in textures.

Well... it's official. Work is too much for now. We're severely undermanned and I'm doing the work of 3 people. This wouldn't be too bad if I had a desk job, but I'm working in a home depot on freight team. The pay is great, but my energy is sapped. I'm taking the week off from mapping. I'd hoped to show some of the progress I've made, but I'm not at a point where I'm satisfied yet... so there's no point in showing something that will be overhauled. So thanks for all the comments and whatnot, and look for something next week.

Realistically, most architecture is boxy, bland, and boring, but would that make for a nice level? I don't think so. If you had the power to change your house's "textures" you'd probably do it; my walls are almost all white and it's boring and ugly. Sure, it's realistic, but sometimes realism is ugly.
